I think the new split screen look needs a bit of work. At times it’s not immediately obvious if it’s a Live broadcast or not. Just watched an interview with a Palestine Red Crescent spokeswoman…it was Live but that was not shown on the screen at all.

I prefer the split screens. Livens up the staid broadcasts with more visuals than just a talking head and a hospital corridor shot. Im used to many north american broadcasters in the US and Canada often using that technique. Especially with a quickly moving breaking story. (Imagine one shot is from a chopper, another from street level and one from the studio) I agree its defo a balance in ensuring the viewers knows which shots are actually live.

First time in a long while since we've seen this!
Though the desk seems similar in shape to that at the glass box - is this a sign that the glass box is about to get a refresh? After all, the current glass box set has been in use since 2018.

And is also available on Peacock

It's wild that they have the opportunity to display absolutely anything on those huge screens, and that's what they went with.

I think it's more likely that there is maintenance going on in or around the glass box. There is no real need for a refresh at the moment especially after the introduction of the UK Tonight and the subtle changes there.

I honestly don't know why they don't use that studio more often. Admittedly, it's pretty boring, but as someone previously said, use a more interesting backdrop on those screens and that would make a lot of difference. An L-shape desk with screens on the front would also be more useful interviewing guests. Then the studio could be used for specialist programming.

I think Studio 6 is still used regularly, but generally for the CSO capability on the opposite side of that set. I suppose they keep the side with the screens as a back up for Millbank and the Glass Box.
