RE: General Bauer Radio Discussion - Omnipresent - 08-04-2024

Marvin Humes and Alex Scott MBE are joining Kiss later this month:

Marvin will present a daily show on both Kiss and Kisstory. Alex will present a weekly show on Sundays.

Quote:The Hit List host and JLS star Marvin Humes will become the new host of mid-mornings on KISS from 11am-1pm each weekday, kicking things off with an hour of old skool and anthems with KISSTORY on KISS. On Fridays, it’s all about launching into the weekend early with the full show dedicated to those classic KISSTORY tunes we love. Super KISSTORY is on!

Listeners can enjoy a double dose of Marvin across the week, as he takes the helm of a new 1pm-3pm show on digital sister station KISSTORY airing straight after his KISS show, Monday-Friday.

Following a successful stint on last year’s KISSTORY All-Stars series, sporting legend and presenter Alex Scott joins KISS with a weekly showcase of her other true love, music. She’ll be keeping your weekend moving with Super KISSTORY every Sunday from 7-9pm.

Marvin’s new shows start from Monday April 22nd, with Alex’s starting later that week on Sunday April 28th.

Notably, Marvin's 11am-1pm show on Kiss will be geared a lot more towards the Kisstory format.

Think this is his first regular radio gig since leaving Capital at the end of 2022.

I haven't listened to Kiss for ages at that time, but hasn't the 11am hour always been Kisstory hour?

Bauer has confirmed a new weekend schedule for Greatest Hits Radio, and the departure of Mark Goodier:

Some clear competitive scheduling against Radio 2 on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

https://www.bauermedia.co.uk/news/brand-new-weekend-line-up-for-greatest-hits-radio/

Quote:Saturday night will see Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp taking us back to the decade he (and we!) love the best – the Eighties – with The 80s Mixtape with Martin Kemp from 7 – 10pm.

Richard Allinson will be taking over on Saturday and Sunday mornings with a four-hour show from 9am – 1pm that will include the Top 10 Til 10, a return for the iconic Wall of Sound, and on Sunday mornings two hours of dedications and special songs from listeners.

Weekend afternoons will be spent in the company of Kate Thornton and a brand-new show on Saturday as the former Smash Hits editor shares the stories behind the greatest One Hit Wonders and asks listeners about the nostalgic trends they remember from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Then on Sunday Kate will be counting down The UK Pop 40 – the Top 40 chart as it was on this day in history – and exactly where it should be.

Smart move giving Allinson weekend mornings - and rather timely after Scala cut back on presenter-led shows.

One imagines he'll also be heard covering for Ken and Simon, too, what with Mark Goodier returning to the Beeb.

Can't help but feel they could have gone further with certain elements of the weekend schedule if they're serious about going up against Radio 2.

A pre-rec'd Jenny Powell breakfast show (she doesn't exactly keep a secret about it being pre-rec'd) is one of the weaker points - likewise Boogie and Arlene's token networked gig on Sunday evenings (almost feels like a 'legacy' of sorts to the pre-GHR era)

The UK Pop 40 seemingly being them making their version of Pick Of The Pops. Though I guess they aren't scheduling it against it.

A pre-recorded breakfast show on a national network? That's poor.

Never been a fan of Sunday afternoons, I find Simon Mayo's album show very dull and sounds out of place in the rest of the station.

Sunday afternoon radio in general is very dull, even the themed jukebox stations like Absolute 90s seem to have specialist shows on rather than just the usual output

Especially when it's replaced lots of live and local DJs

RE: General Bauer Radio Discussion - lookoutwales - 15-04-2024

Most weekend output on GHR is voicetracked, IIRC.

4-7pm Sundays, hence the PR reference to "exactly where it should be".

Also on Sundays, Fred MacAulay retains his Scotland-only show in Allinson's slot.

You won't find a more "40 year olds attempting to look young and trendy" photo than that any time soon.
