Rewind TV - Launches 23rd of May 2024 - bkman1990 - 17-04-2024
A new channel called Rewind TV is to launch on Sky and FTA Satellite (which may include Freesat) on the 23rd of May 2024.
It will show older programmes from the UK. The channel's official website says it is aimed at the over 55+ demographic.

As I am not in this age category myself; the trailer above showcases a lot of older British TV dramas and chat shows that will air on the channel after it's launch.
If people here can jog their memories and collate a list of what shows that are in the trailer because I have never seen them before.

Spotted three ITV sitcoms (Watching, Surgical Spirit and Trouble in Mind) in that sizzle reel - all of which were seen on Forces TV before it closed. Pretty sure I also spotted Mr Motivator in there in what appears to be The Mrs Merton Show. Have also heard World in Action and Drop the Dead Donkey will be among the lineup.

See Clive James there on the set of Takeshi's Castle, as he appeared on one of their celebrity specials during the original run. I can't remember what show he did to feature that, but it was obviously done on film as Takeshi's Castle itself was on tape...
Also see Clive Anderson there on the set of Whose Line Is It Anyway, a show that has ultimately had more success in the US overall, even with the key talent taking it off screen and into stand-up. We just had the original ten year run on Channel 4 and then completely washed our hands of it, though both US versions did appear over here on what was Five US and the CW version appeared on Dave.
Might have to question how successful Rewind might be if its only on Sky (FTA may suggest it could also appear on Freesat) but we've seen it before where archive "rarely seen" TV doesn't pull in the numbers beyond the initial interest and it gets replaced with more mainstream stuff.
Though that being said, Talking Pictures TV seems to cope, though they're probably helped by being on Freeview, but I'm aware they started on Sky only as well, coming to Freeview later.

Definitely a few past Forces TV titles in there (and both Mrs Merton and Whose Line? popped up on That's over the past year or so) - makes me wonder if some of those who worked on Forces are behind it.
Getting the impression of a fairly similar line-up to Granada Plus, actually.
Drop the Dead Donkey is in the middle of its comeback stage tour, too, which will hopefully spark some added interest.

Think that was taken from his two-part travelogue for LWT, Clive James in Japan (oft-repeated on both Granada Plus and Sky Travel way back when).

Talking Pictures TV has worked because the people behind it haven't paid silly amounts of money on content and it has largely been stuff which hasn't aired in decades and/or is easily available elsewhere. The branding is also spot-on unlike many archive channels which don't seem to know what they want to be and the programming doesn't match the brand.

Forces TV from what I remember were pretty consistent when it came to scheduling, very often giving full runs for a programme before replacing it when it ended and taking it on a short break.

I know Noel who owns the station and have spoken to him a lot over the years, and Noel Cronin knows his audience - he knows who he wants to attract, their key demo, and any other people other than that demo are also welcome and it has worked - he has pitched his channel perfectly.
Some channels just seem to be using archive comedies for example as cheap filler - it is great seeing Thats TV and Thats TV 2 airing classic comedy and drama, but I get the feeling they are just there for the money to fill prime time easier - whereas Talking Pictures TV always feels they care about their viewers.
Also, Noel told me he always wanted, and will try his best to do so, to keep his channel a full 24 hour channel, with no blocks handed over to teleshopping or casinos or closing down - so for example if you are awake at 5am, you will know there will be a film airing, or I remember at times they repeats some of their prime time programming at 4am for people awake at that time.

The picture quality of that YouTube video is lovely.
I bet that the broadcast quality of the channel will be the worst possible SD resolution/bit rate they can get away with.
