I had it in my head that there had been one in the days of BT Sport's 5.30pm KOs, but maybe I'm thinking of New Year's Eve.

It is finally confirmed that Wolves v. Chelsea will be on Christmas Eve at 13:00. There's also two early games on New Year's Eve, and only two games at 15:00 on Boxing Day.

All fixtures until January 22 (barring any FA Cup third round replays) confirmed below.

Daily Mail so usual caveats apply etc but they are reporting that the BBC is the only bidder.

The Telegraph and The Times (and the Daily Mirror - though referencing the Mail) are also reporting it, so it sounds like it's as close to a done deal as possible.

From what I can remember and from what I can read from the below article, the BBC were the sole bidders the last time the rights went to tender, although they did end up paying marginally more.
Quote:The 2019-2022 rights will cost the BBC £211.5 million, slightly more than the £204 million it paid three years ago, though indicating a fall in value once inflation is taken into account. In 2012 the broadcaster paid £179.7 million.

I saw somewhere that by the end of the next rights cycle it will be a 25 year uninterupted run for the top tier highlights on MOTD.

Anyway, thanks goodness for the BBC there was no highlights show tonight - ot would have been a very tight turnaround to finalise the edit in the end!

TNT Sports and the Premier League will be trialling bodycams on players during the warm-up ahead of the Wolves v. Tottenham game tomorrow.

Not sure what benefit this will be to the viewer. I don't think anyone particularly cares about the warm-up, barring any injuries occuring. It's not like much happens either.

It's probably so they can get an idea of what it would be like if they used them during matches.

They tried it in a tennis practice match recently, it wasn't great footage as there was too much movement.

There's something curious going on with the TV picks for matchweek 21, which is itself split over two weekends (13-22 Jan*) for the mid-season break. TNT are showing 6 matches, including 2 in their regular Saturday at 1230 slot. I wonder if the other 4 have come from their package A Saturday allocation, or if they've done a deal to do something different with some of their package G '2 × all the midweek' rights.

* or the 12th if Burnley or Luton end up in an FA Cup replay

RE: Premier League Coverage - RhysJR - 17-11-2023

The Daily Mail is reporting that the BBC are set to offer Gary Lineker a new contract following the renewal of the Premier League highlights rights. Especially after the events of this year, this maybe a surprise for some.

The article also reports that Apple TV will not bid for live rights in the upcoming tender; they are only interested in acquiring global rights agreements.

Taken me a while to remember this but when BT first got that package (which wasn't selling at first), they managed to negotiate it to one and a half midweeks with five extra games over the "winter break" split weekend. But for various reasons including the winter World Cup, that break hasn't happened for about half of the seasons it has supposed to so far.

Further complication is that one of BT/TNTs "midweeks" is usually the New Year's extra set of games but this year that's a normal weekend.
