If they're getting the Cambridge cameras also, it'd be a massive improvement in SD PQ.

Cambridge also used Viz for graphics, so hopefully Norwich would get that too.

Hopefully a new set is on the cards soonish as it desperately needs a refit. Their current one has been in use since 2009!

That's weird, actually. Why not use the same transparent straps as the national bulletin and take NC strap instead? Local bulletins have much less to do with the news channel than the network ones.

Well...

Tunbridge Wells is currently umpteen weeks into being decamped to have its new LED set installed, the timescale for which has been delayed due to a flood in the studio during the works.

And it has already been seen on-air recently that Southampton now has another of the standardised temporary sets that have been touring the English Regions in their small secondary studio, as they recently briefly decamped there during some maintenance/upgrade work in their main big studio.

On the basis of the roll-out so far, we seem to have surmised that there are just two temporary sets and two LED set installation crews touring the English Regions.

It would be pretty daft for the temporary set that is currently in Southampton to soon be dismantled again, moved to another region whilst they have an LED set installed, and then subsequently moved back to Southampton again for them to be LED-endowed further down the roll-out schedule.

That, coupled with a recent Tweet regarding an outdoor view of Southampton being videoed for use as the forthcoming new South Today LED set backdrop, indicates that they are next in the queue after Tunbridge Wells.

There will be 5 more regions to do after that, with one of the temporary sets & installion crews next becoming available once TW is done. It's anyone's guess where Norwich is in the queue of the last 5 regions to get done. It is likely to take until either Q1 or Q2 2024 for every last region to be completed.

Somebody's got to be last, so patience may be required.

Please let it be Plymouth.  Big Grin

I may even be tempted to embrace a religion and pray that IKEA have run out of stock by that time.

"technical upgrade" yeah right, the gallery output is still SD, nothing has changed on-air, extremely disappointed

RE: BBC/ITV East News - IanJRedman - 03-07-2023

Maybe the work can't be completed in one weekend. Perhaps another closure planned before whatever changes they're making can go live?

When South had their upgrade last year, i think there were a total of 3 weekends when there was a joint bulletin with South East and for one of those London too.

I think the name of the combined bulletin was BBC London, South and South East Today or something as longwinded as that!
