RE: BBC/ITV East News - bkman1990 - 03-05-2024

The presenter reading the BBC Look East Bulletin before 7am had a major issue with the autocue pedal this morning.

Unfortunately; he wasn't able to finish it. The opt for BBC One East eventually switched over to BBC London News in Studio D.

I've recorded it from the iPlayer stream in case anyone missed it earlier:

Too busy trying to pump up that car tyre though.

It looks like Look East have an alternative to the foot pedal for the script - a handheld device looking very similar to the "cat key" weather clickers.

The foot pedal incident made it onto Have I Got News for You last week!

With the greatest of respect to the man, shouldn't a properly trained newsreader/presenter understand that stamping on the floor and not saying anything looks remarkably amateurish? I'd assume someone worth their salt would either be able to cover it up or at least be honest with the viewer that there's a problem (quicker than he did).

It's strange, you hear him start to introduce himself again as the VT plays, did he think they were rehearsing?

Do all regional news presenters on the BBC have to control their own autocue?

On the shorter bulletins at least, yes. Most do it seamlessly...
