RE: Radio 2 - alfiejmulcahy - 21-05-2023

I think the saddest part of this is the specialist programmes, which have now lost their identity. Instead of lovely pieces of music in the theme of the programme you're left with the same woman introducing every programme in the same dull tone zaps the personality out of them. It seems to me as if they haven't bothered with the effort of creating full sung jingles for every programme - even Good Morning Sunday and OJ Borg have got the default soleless voice. I think it's best demonstrated with the Folk Show, where it goes from a brilliant piece of music (which sounds very much to my ears like Bellowhead) to a soleless v/o with the programme name.

This Week:

Last Week:

And it's the same situation with Sounds of the 80s and Pick of the Pops, where the new jingles stick out like a sore thumb against the lovely backing track.

Wisebuddah have shared details of the new package - the TOTH jingle sounds much better without the pre-recorded presenters talking over it.

It’s probably just because it’s different, but it sounds strange hearing just ‘Radio 2’ in some of the jingles without the ‘BBC’ at the front!

I have to admit I totally agree, I really like the news theme in those clips, sadly it's almost lost with the voice overs from the different presenters.

I actually think the bed in the lead up to the news sounds better in this newer iteration, but the voice over really ruins it.

RE: Radio 2 - JMT1985 - 24-05-2023

Can someone explain to me the listener age group BBC Radio 2 is now aimed at, as it seems to be BBC Radio 2 has become a simple copy of BBC Radio 1 but for the slightly older.

I used to love listening to BBC Radio 2, and I am 37, even when I was younger I really liked The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Jeremy Vine etc. But that was nearly a decade a go when I was 27. Now in 2023, I feel BBC Radio 2 feels very like a slightly older BBC Radio 1 station.

This is the reason why I have moved over to Heart Radio - I don't understand what listeners Radio 2 is wanting to attract now in 2023 - has their remit changed?

It all sounds like a rip-off of Reelworld's various Heart packages.

I'd say probably 35-55 - they want people leaving Radio 1 to remain with the BBC.   It's remit in reality is the same it has been for years - it's just those 40-somethings it attracted 20 years ago got older.

I quite happily switch between Radio 1 and 2 and Capital as well.

For anyone that doesn't use Twitter regularly, if you click on "Read the full conversation" you'll get more clips and jingles in the Twitter thread, including a slightly cleaner news jingle.

I also couldn't help but smile at the guy in the green sweatshirt who only seemed to sing "Bee Bee Cee" in some jingles!

Wisebuddah have also added the audio to their website, where you can also find a good chunk of other packages they have worked on.

RE: Radio 2 - m_in_m - 24-05-2023

I really don't like some of them. Rylan's feels wrong and why is Elaine Page just her name and not Elaine Page on Sunday?
