The Sport Thread - For stuff not worthy of a thread of its own - Ste - 11-08-2022

I'm starting up the general Sports Thread again, which is for any Sports related items not worth of their own thread.

UEFA Super Cup coverage last night used nothing new at all. The titles are the same as used since 2020 (with updated teams).

Graphics were also the same as the Super Cup graphics since 2020 as well.

Whatever happened, the branding used by the BBC for the European Aquatics Championships was going to be a bit 'weird'. They are being integrated into the European Championship TV coverage, despite not being part of the European Championships (Maybe we need Grandstand back as an 'over-arching' brand!)

First BBC3 programme opened with a European Championship graphic in the studio whilst talking about the European Aquatic Championship Swimming, and there was a 'coming up' swimming aston with the European Championship branding. LEN (European Aquatics) graphics in use for the actual swimming though

ITV4's first La Liga match in their new contract was shown last night (Real Sociedad vs Barcelona) and was presented by Semra Hunter with Guillem Balagué and Lauren (ex Arsenal, Mallorca, Portsmouth) as pundits. Sam Matterface and Terry Gibson on commentary instead of the world feed commentary (which Terry Gibson normally appears on).

From this Twitter video, the studio looks to be at BT Sport's studios?

The US Open has new world feed graphics:

Looks like something broke in the WTA-Prime Video chain during the Granby singles final.
We lost sound and picture just before Kasatkina was serving for the match, and regained picture on the first match point. We didn't get any commentary until the conclusion of the match.

RTVS Sport, Slovakia, 2021. This was their first broadcast, as well as some bits and pieces of pres:

Some news from Rugby Union, which has shocked me tonight. Former Wales captain, Eddie Butler, who became a successful freelance commentator, and author, has died aged 65. As well as working for BBC Sport, he also done English language commentaries on S4C, Premier Sports, ITV Wales at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, and for Channel 4 on their coverage of the 2018 Wales tour to Argentina.

Butler also commentated on Archery at the 2012 London Olympics.

Very sad news about Eddie Butler once of the best Rugby commentators ever and will be sadly missed.

What a voice.

There was a small section just yesterday during the lying-in-state procession, with his commentary about past lying-in-states.

Was about to mention that, think I've seen a few pieces he's voiced over the week.

Always loved his reviews of the games on the last day of the Olympics.
