The Grand National is to bring  forward the start time from 17:15 BST next year. It is likely the new start time will be between 15:45 BST and 16:15 BST.

The Grand National will be bought forward to an earlier start time under safety measures set out this morning - quite possibly returning to its old 3.45pm slot.

Unlike the move to 5.15 driven by TV some years ago, organisers are insisting this is to get the best out of the course conditions.

Major pick up for Premier Sports who have won the main ROI Champions League rights from 2024-27. RTE have also retained a package of games (apparently Wednesday first choice) while VM are apparently still talking to UEFA.

Premier take over from LiveScore in what is their first major acquisition since the sale of their UK business to Viaplay.

By the way, mentioned in the press release and one thing I haven’t heard much about, seemingly there are plans to replace or augment the Super Cup with some sort of Champions League Opening Tournament. What little I’ve been able to find out about it suggests four teams will be involved.

A new feature on tonight's rugby coverage on TNT Sports was after the first try of yhe game, the try scorer was interviewed on the pitch by Martin Bayfield as he was returning up the pitch for the restart. This wasn't repeated in the match, but is mentioned as one of the new inovations for this season in the interview below with Orla Chennaoui.

I'm not sure what I think of this idea, at the very least I'll need to see it a few more times to see if it brings up anything interesting. I'm not sure where I stand overall with the current trend for increased access for the broadcaster and viewer either. It is good for us at home in a way to see and here more from the people at the heart of the action, but it is far from guaranteed to bring up anything new or interesting.

And rugby desperately needs new graphic designers. Another set of really ugly graphics for the new WXV.

Interestingly, Football Focus showing highlights of the England v Australia game last night complete with Steve Bower's commentary and Channel 4 DOG.

I don't hate those graphics, but do hate the idea of interviewing players during the match. Tries should be celebrated with team mates, not result in media commitments. Not a huge fan of interviewing a player at half time either - it really adds nothing but the obvious.

Clearly somebody at World Rugby found the WordArt function for these two designs, totally cheapens the look.

The TNT Sports graphics haven't yet made their way to the world feed production of the two non-televised Prem Rugby games, which are still in last season's (unbranded) BT Sport look.

They are so dire it isn’t even funny.

Meanwhile, in rugby league, Sky has retained the rights to Super League (not unexpected given we knew they were in exclusive talks) and will broadcast every match across Sky Sports “channels and platforms” (almost certainly means some online or red button only) over the next three years.
