No, it's totally a Star production for ICC TV this time around.  We've known for a while that this would be the case, as when the production contract for ICC TV went out (in line with the current rights cycle) it did not include the 2021 World T20 (which ended up taking place in the UAE) or the 2023 World Cup, which were already awarded to Star as part of their global rights deal.  S&V did win the remainder of the ICC TV production contract.

The presentation is indeed very similar to the ICC TV style that Sunset and Vine have been responsible for over the last 7 years, but I think there are ways you can tell that it's a Star production rather than S&V.

S&V did produce the preview show for the ICC, and they are producing the Channel 5 highlights programmes, so they are not totally uninvolved with this tournament, but they are not producing the world feed.

I've lost track of where we are with ICC rights/production as the 50 over World Cup is usually the end of a rights cycle.  Have they awarded the production contract for the next cycle yet?

It is reported below that Channel 4 will no longer show Formula E, with discussions with TNT Sports and ITV Sport possible. Of course ITV were the first UK FTA broadcaster of Formula E, which in its short life has already been on all the UK PSB channels, as well as Eurosport and BT Sport.

The article also says that the world feed production will transfer from Gravity Media to Whisper. A new lead host is still needed after Vernon Kay left for Radio 2; Jermaine Jenas is suggested as a replacement...

I think the article is a little confused about the production - Gravity Media are the facilities company, and the races have been produced remotely from their new base in White City since the start of last season. That's continuing this season, though it's possible that Whisper have picked up the production contract. (Just to add to the mix, Timeline TV, who used to do the OBs, are still involved with the RF and special cameras).

Isn't Formula E pretty much given away?

I don't think Whisper get enough credit for how they've grown in the last 7 years - seem to be in pole position now when it comes to independent sports production, somewhat in the position S+V were for years.

The article mentions that Whisper is going to be doing the pre and post race coverage replacing North One, not the actual race coverage which is produced by Aurora.

“the so-called Red Button service” huh?

European football rights market looking a little shaky at the moment. A new five year deal for domestic Serie A rights has been agreed, with a similar match split between DAZN and Sky (all ten games per week on DAZN, three also shown on Sky). Crucially though, it is around €28 million a year less.

In France, the initial auction for the domestic rights for Ligue 1 was withdrawn by LFP after no bids reached the financial level expected. The previous deal with Mediapro collapsed with a lower cost deal with Amazon and Canal+ coballed together. It was reported a few weeks ago that Canal+ were not intending to bid.

On one hand, it's not great news for the competitivness of the football landscape that both these key countries are lagging behind the behemoth of the Premier League's broadcast revenue. On the other hand, there might be a little panic from the Premier League with their new rights auction getting underway.

Looks like Formula E is on the hunt for yet another UK broadcaster:

It's one of those deals where even at a pretty low fee they just can't keep a deal in FTA space, having bounced from ITV, to Channel 5, to the iPlayer/BBC Two and finally Channel4's Youtube space (with the odd TV broadcast).

At what point do they give up and just run it online with internal sponsors a lá GT racing?

Says a lot about the declining relevance and viewership in La Liga that El Clasico is not available in the UK today. Though even in the peak of La Liga's viewership when on Sky Sports, they had often wanted to show El Clasico during the UK blackout.

A day that sums up the failure of La Liga's commercail approach to the UK market in recent years.

Surprising that Matt Newsum has been the lead TV commentator for the BBC international rugby league coverage two weeks in a row. I could have imagined a 2:1 split over the series towards rugby league correspondent Dave Woods, but not the split in favour of the no. 2 commentator.
