Apparently some technical issues with Sky Sports as well this afternoon with West Brom v. Leicester having no build-up and the message on screen like below. Match is airing without issue at the moment.

Snooker has moved up to BBC1.
Alex Scott announced it at 12:23 looking back on the iPlayer live stream, so very late in the day.

The rebaranded World Rugby Sevens Series (branded 'SVNS' because who needs vowels these days) has launched. The graphics are thankfully not eye-bleddingly bad, which is an achievement considering ruugby's other recently launched on air looks, and the garish colours seen all over the official website and branding.

Saying that, they do look a little basic, especially the font. But that is almost something I'm grateful for. The 'petals' in the logo change colour from white red to denote a minute of match time has elapsed, which is either a bit naff or a rather subtle addition to the clock.

There's still no broadcaster in the UK, but the in-house availabilty via RugbyPass TV is an improvement on the official website from previous years.

There looks to be some changes to the Champions Cup colour scheme and website design ahead of it kicking off next week and its new sponsorship with Investec. So possibly a new graphics package there as well, though the last one was introduced after Round 2 of the season and had a colour tweak a few years back, so it could eemian albeit with new colours.

Is it presented by HRVY?

The graphics look OK but that logo looks awful, and the red is really hard to read on black.

Sgorio’s streaming-only Cymru Premier game this evening - Penybont v Bala Town - failed to go live.

Not a great look for S4C - especially as more games migrate to streaming-only.

Match coverage for the streams tends to vary from one camera to full-scale OB with Pres - viewing figures typically remain low.

N.B. Apologies for the double post - unable to edit it.

Future news

The UEFA Women's Champions League is to be revamped from 2026. Sadly, it sounds like it will become a similar format to the horrible new men's format, with one league of 18 teams rather than groups of four. Teams will still only play three home and three away games though. There will also be a secondary competition launched.

An increase in teams competing does feel welcome, as big teams such as last year's runners up Wolfsburg, Arsenal and Man City all failing to qualify for this season's group stage. This also represents that the expansion to include a group stage could be considered a success, though how transitioning towards a more profitable broadcast model (not putting all matches on YouTube) without denting the competition's exposure will be a challenging thing to execute.

The host cities/locations for the next four Winter Olympics have been pencilled in, with the IOC entering exclusive dialogue with potential hosts rather than the old more transparent and more expensive bid and vote system. The hosts most likely will be:

2026: Milan Cortina, Italy (confirmed)
2030: French Alps (and Nice)
2034: Salt Lake City, USA
2038: Switzerland (the whole of the country)*

*Switzerland's level of dialogue is not as formal as France and SLC, but they are in pole position

Great news for British viewers that three of the next four games should be in a European timezone. Though whether there will be any snow and ice by 2038 doesn't look as secure... (he says with 4/5 men's alpine skiing events this season cancelled due to high snowfall).

With the former location of the Goals Show (BT Sport in Stratford) no longer available, it will be in a new location described as the 'Prime Video Pavilion'. Looks like there will be a change in the interface to make it easier to move from match to match.

2019 and 2020 the top matches in UHD SDR; 2021 had a couple of UHD HDR (with everything else as 1080i SDR). Last year I think the aim was for everything to be produced as 1080p SDR, though there were a couple of last minute truck substitutions which meant that not all of them were.

Interesting set-up for the ITV La Liga coverage. The green screen studio but with the type of desk that I last saw on their onsite Six Nations coverage.

It’s probably a much smaller studio than the main one use for higher profile Rugby and Football hence the need for a much smaller desk. There probably isn’t any space here beyond where those three seats and the desk is.

The first upset of the new ICC cricket rights cycle is that Amazon will broadcast coverage in Australia until 2027. Deals are not sold on territory/region basis, rather than globally as before.
