Pretty sure Australia has requirements for cricket involving the national team to be free to air so they'll likely have to partner with another broadcaster for Aussie matches.

BBC Wales have truly messed up the schedule tonight to show live football.

The Wales match kicks off at 18:30 (looks like it designed to match the other match in the group also starting at 18:30 in Denmark), with coverage beginning on BBC Two Wales at 18:00. Coverage switches to BBC One Wales at 19:30, with the second half airing on a different channel to the first. This means that the coverage of Scotland v. England airing in full on BBC Two Wales rather than BBC One like in the rest of the country.

Then, to make the whole set of change look even more awkward, BBC One Wales airs filler programme from 20:45 until 22:00. The network BBC Two schedule is scattered about (also true in Northern Ireland).

Would probably have been easier to bump the News at Six and Wales Today over to BBC2 but not something that is commonly done at all. Absolutely right though they give the Wales game priority. That is on the red button uninterrupted - perhaps would have been smoother to put the England v Scotland game on the red button only rather than on BBC2 and perhaps join it for the second half.

It looks like TNT Sports are showing the FIFA Club World Cup this year, they have Al Ittihad v Auckland City on the schedules for TNT Sports 3 next Tuesday.

Tragic news just announced that TalkSPORT commentator Russ Hargreaves has died aged only 45. Condolences to his friends and family, it was clear from the tributes below he was so deeply loved by all who knew him.

Absolute shock to read this today, I used to listen to Russell on Extra Time on a Saturday or Sunday night when the show started at 12am and was part of my Sunday night routine when I was unemployed a few years ago, also enjoyed his work on Rugby Union and the Lions tours talksport covered.  He got me through some routh times.  He will never be forgotten.

TNT Sports have won the rights to show Formula E next season. Given that Warner Bros Discovery was already showing Formula E through Eurosport, this is basically a lose of the FTA element (Room for some races based on this article) and a swap of channels for the Pay option.

Also confirms that Jermaine Jenas will join as presenter.

The latest info about the UEFA Champions League rights for the Republic of Ireland is quite thin on the ground at the moment.

The document below confirms that Premier Sports are the only bidder so far to obtain new broadcast TV rights deal for the UCL and UEFA Youth League in this new cycle from the 2024/2025 to 2026/2027 season.

There are no UEFA CL/EL/ECL rights signed over either to RTÉ or VMTV confirmed within this document.

Although does this new rights agreement for Premier Sports cover Pay TV rights for The Republic of Ireland only?

I would assume RTÉ and VMTV have separate rights agreements in place to show their own package of games for these competitions.

The report is that RTE have secured a package but there’s been no official confirmation. Quite odd given the closing date for bids was almost five months ago. I would take it that only Premier Sports (who, like the Viaplay deal, got their press release out before UEFA had time to issue a confirmation) have signed a contract but other deals remain under negotiation.

In previous years Ireland was usually one of the last markets where rights were confirmed but that’s changed this year.

This would explain the great pains FE had to confirm that there would be free rebroadcasts a week later (after any exclusivity elapsed) when they launched their archive service. They clearly want the rights fees, but similarly they're too small to lose the share associated with being confined to a paywall. NASCAR do it similarly and have done well out of it, but they at least have a large base to begin with.
