Kudos to the press release author about moving an event exclusively to pay TV in a major market writing this with a straight face, 'More viewers than ever tuned into live Formula E race coverage last season.'

Ultimately, Formula E hasn't been able to carve a good enough audience for the FTA market to justify those channels airing it (from the broadcasters' PoV). It has been on all four national PSBs in its history and never lasted particularly long on them all, with very little live coverage getting onto the main channel each time.

Saying that, it will be curious to see how prominent a slot it gets on TNT Sports. It looks like they see enough of an audience to put it only on the top tier service (it sounds like Eurosport won't be airing it in the UK anymore), and it has a notable TNT Sports personality hosting.

Something one would well imagine would have been bread and butter output for sister network Eurosport not too long ago.

And another channel to add to the very remarkable and lengthy list of briadcasters to air the Club World Cup. I think I can remember everyone bar Sky and ITV showing it in the last 15 years or so.

Of course this is the last edition of this tournament with only seven teams, before the new expanded version takes over from 2025.  I'm sure this will get wall-to-wall coverage on BBC One and ITV like its national team equivalent every other summer [extreme sarcasm].

What is the plan with Eurosport post-Olympics? Isn't is supposed to fold into TNT Sports at some point?

I think you are right in this although like I said with WBD, now they have TNT Sports it's basically a channel swap for them and getting exclusive TV rights. It would look quite odd to be shown on Eurosport and TNT Sports, I know WBD would sometimes show a race on Quest as an additional  FTA option but I doubt they would show on Eurosport and TNT Sports on channels they both now own.

FA Cup and Scottish Cup TV picks for the next rounds have been announced.

Seen the usual complaints about the decision to broadcast all Premier League ties (Maidstone United's Twitter account one example) but ultimately the broadcasters ultimately need to balance all varying interests, not just show the six smallest teams left (three all PL ties, two of them hardly inspiring doesn't seem too great though). It is worth noting that this is the first time this season the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool will be able to seen for the majority of the public from their own homes. And all ties will be broadcast internationally with likely a few ending up as streaming options in the UK as well, so there will be a financial award for all teams.

Saying that, it is rather predictable and uninspiring that Viaplay always select Rangers and Celtic when they can in the Scottish Cup; it would be preferable if the FTA partner had a first or second pick.

GB are looking likely to boyctt the Olympics next year. Does the BBC still have to pay for rights if GB don’t turn up.

Really like the new Heineken, er I mean Investec Champions Cup titles - probably the best since the classic kicker titles of the late 2000s/early 2010s.

Seems to be new graphics too.

Team GB will not be boycotting the Olympics, and the BBC would have to pay for rights regardless unless they had a specific clause for circumstances such as those.

Exactly.  This is the position Ukraine had softened too anyway - Russians competing under a neutral flag, rather than under a Russian or Russian Olympic banner.

You’re right, Russians and Belarusians are currently competing under a neutral flag in most sports anyway so the Olympics decision isn’t as big a deal as it seems. Athletics is the major exception as athletes from both countries remain banned from competing in that sport.

Have I had a stroke? A rugby competition has actually got nice looking new graphics!

I after to agree they are some of the best for quite a while, though the previous ones were like the Mona Lisa compared to some other competitions in recent years.
I assume the colour indicator is below the abbreviations and scores (it looks like there is black and white lines there but need other teams to really see).

When the teams were walking out in Connacht they used the Challenge Cup music rather than Industrial Revolution Part 2 (the music used for the Champions Cup and Heineken Cup). Is this a mistake or has the competition changed its theme?

Naturally, the Challenge Cup is using the old graphics...
