Are the rugby picks still chosen by the ERC as they were in the C4 days? Agree it makes no sense to feature the same two teams twice.

Not sure this new structure works either (IIRC it's groups of 6 where you only play 4 of the teams). The Swiss League was bad enough but this might be even worse.

RTE are the same, Munster and Leinster both twice, no Connacht or Ulster. (Indeed ITV picked a game this weekend involving Munster, which means Munster actually got 3 FTA games out of four)

I do know that the current deals (which for some reason are really short; this is the second of a two season contract) do allow for different games on ITV and RTE, in contrast to the previous contract which required C4 and VMTV to show the same game, which as you say was picked by EPCR.

The format is actually relatively simple compared to the old one, there are six teams in each group, each team plays every other team once except the team that’s in their own league, and the top four go through.

Reminds me of the ashes cricket with the paintbrush effect, maybe that’s that they are gonna use for the big events?

How much control would TNT Sports have over this?

I'm aware that the virtual ads in the F1 broadcast are region specific, but would they be able to/are country specific, and how much say would the foreign broadcaster (or authorities like Ofcom) have over this?

I think its on behalf of a third party for the advertising overlays for country-based broadcast, not TNT Sports themselves, which would censor the product placements in repeats.

What’s the option if that’s what’s in the world feed - ban the broadcast entirely, as has happened (not sure if it’s still going on) for Young Boys of Bern games in France, where the authorities have issues (to put it mildly) with the shirt sponsor.

Not much. Serie A do use virtual billboard replacement, but AAUI it's on a per-continent basis - TNT get the Europe feed, rather than a bespoke UK one.

I stand to be corrected, but I think most VBR technologies still do their overlays with a camera 1 feed and a separate cut from the vision mixer. Doing it in real time on the finished match cut is theoretically possible, but it would get a bit messy with things like complex replay wipes, never mind the commercial implications.

I saw this on twitter and couldn't be bothered responding but I don't really see what this chaps point is. As far as I am aware there's no obligation on a broadcaster to black out a sponsor of this type, and as others have mentioned its up to the host broadcaster to determine to what extent (if any) it wishes to tailor its feeds. Seems like much ado about nothing to me.

Presumably if that operator has lost its UK license, it won't be offering a service in the UK so advertising it isn't really an issue?

I don’t think it’s new and it’s definitely not the same as the darts but the EFL Cup graphics, which used to be the same shade of red as the EFL, are now a much darker colour, almost but not quite black.
