Remarkable how well the top sport ratings gave remained stable since the below was published. Also, in the case of boxing and European football (and countless many rights that don't get onto that list like test cricket), a stark example of how much casual exposure is lost by removing yourself from FTA broadcasters.

Talking of the Grand National it's been moved forward an hour this year on safety grounds to 4.00pm.

He was very much the weak link on commentary at the weekend. Time he was moved on.

3:45 sounds a better time for me in theory as that would be at half-time in the afternoon's football, but good to see there has been some inevitable changes after last year's deadly farce. Looking at it, it started at 4:15 before it was moved after 5pm. You'd hope ITV won't be too badly affected by the change, but the viewing figures do seem to be in a healthier position than they were in the Channel 4 years when the later start was introduced.

And it will be typical luck if this year's race was a sodden race without any portestors getting close with increased security.

As much as I intrdouced his increasing excitement in the second half from a biased standing point, I do have to agree with that. He is the last of the punditry team that would have been around 10-15 years ago, so you would feel it could be or should be off soon. Jonathan hardly features on Scrum V coverage since the reintroduction of their URC coverage, when he was almost an ever present back before they lost the rights to Premier Sports in 2018.

Jonathan will be part of the S4C team this weekend. The ITV programme guide suggests that there will be a four man panel 'studio' team for Wales v. England (Jonny Wilkinson, Lawrence Dallagio from England; Jamie Roberts and Dan Biggar from Wales); I think in previous years one or two of those would have been alongside Martin Bayfield pitchside rather than joining Mark Pougatch. A four man panel does feel a bit overcrowded on paper.

Jonathan did post the below this week. There is many that agree with our position that he wasn't the best on commentary on Saturday, but as ever it is unacceptable that this gets personally directed at the individual in an abusive manner.

With injury time being closer to 10 minutes than 1 minute now 4pm might work better than 3.45pm.

Good to see ITV having a balanced panel.

A lot of rugby league fans are hoping that he isn't on commentary for their BBC's Super League coverage. However I'm assuming he will be commentating on Castleford v Wigan for them, given it airs on a Six Nations free Saturday.

BBC Wales' coverage of the Welsh Open snooker next week will for the first time start at 10am for the first few days, rather than at 1pm. This is helped by Politics Live not airing next week. The evening sessions will have an hour on BBC Two Wales, and will air in full on the Red Button and iPlayer nationally (all BBC Two Wales coverage is simulcast on the Red Button as well).
BBC Wales' Catrin Heledd and Ian Hunt are the two presenters billed all week.

Eurosport's linear coverage dosn't begin until 12:30 at the start of the week. Looking at the schedule, it looks like their studio coverage doesn't kick in until the Friday once again.

Am I right in thinking BBC Wales are the host broadcaster for this event? It's a bit hard to establish as it uses the WST graphics package rather than the BBC's own on matches, and the Eurosport studio is usually in the prime location overlooking the tables, with BBC Wales in a corner of the practice room out of the way.

(Thanks to Nick Metcalfe on Twitter for spotting the change to the BBC coverage)

The full Sky rugby league broadcast team reported below. That does feel a bit small for an increase in games.

The opening BBC game will not be shown on BBC Two in Wales because of the snooker.

The lunchtime news also appears on BBC Two Wales that day.

I hadn't realised Mark had left The Athletic podcast last August.

I have a feeling the arse will fall out of the podcast industry in the same way Buzzfeed/ Huffington Post/ Vice all came crashing down together. There is far too many now.

Soft launch of Sky Sports tennis multi-court coverage tomorrow (Friday)
will include two courts from WTA Abu Dhabi (one of which will be on Sky Sports Arena all day), two from WTA Cluj-Napoca (the first match of one will be on Sky Sports Main Event as it features Harriet Dart), and the full day at ATP Marseille (only one court but Sky Sports Arena joins around 17:00 after Abu Dhabi finishes. ATP Dallas and Cordoba are not included in the soft launch.

Sky Sports Tennis as a channel should appear on the EPG at some point tomorrow also.

ITV will trial audio description commentary of tomorrow's England v. Wales Six Nations match. This in partnership with Guinness.

Good to hear the coverage will be more accessible.
