The (Football) League of Ireland the latest competition to introduce their own graphics on RTE2’s coverage tonight (although they’re not actually new, they were used on their own in-house WatchLOI service already).

BBC's live Super League coverage using the Sky graphics during the match, so it looks they are the de facto world feed.

None of the usual BBC co-commentators (Jonathan Davies, John Kear, Brian Novle) with Robbie Hunter-Paul the only voice alongside Matt Newsum.

Some other notes from the rugby league coverage that I have seen others note.
Yesterday's clashing matches had score updates from the other games. I personally don't mind when broadcasts do this, but some who wanted to watch the others spoiler-free found it annoying. The secondary matches were commentary only, but the commentators popped up voicing over analysis at half-time and also were back at full time, even interviewing players via headsets in the 10-15 minutes they had after the final whistle.

Another new addition is a different look at Video Referee decisions, with multiple angles shown at the same time. I have to agree with all that I have seen that this is very hard to follow and look at. Two angle might be okay but that is way too many. On a slightly related note, I'm not sure why during video reviews in most sports the actual replays are actually shrunk to split screen the players/video room/referee. Only one of those things are important and needs to be shown in the best detail.

Clear information is better than too much information.

I guess at least C4 ending coverage should mean an end of clocks counting down. Must say after years of a few broadcasters/events doing it I'm yet to be convinced the scorebar at the bottom is an improvement for rugby or football.

By my count, Sky have had their score bar in the bottom left since at least 2011, so regular RL viewers are well used to the positioning at this point.

They work better in the bottom left in RL than in, say, football. Action is rarely obstructed down there in RL.

Arguably, it would be more in the way up top.

All of Sky's bottom-of-the-screen score bars have all a lot more discreet than the ones they replaced. They were big, bold, and spanned the entire width of the screen, left to right.

In addition at half-time it seems like they are allowed to show highlights footage from other games in progress - complete with Sky DOG.

IMO something other sports with FTA/Pay splits should think about doing.

They also showed highlights from Friday, crediting Super League+.

I agree that this is a good model to replicate, but I can't think of many other deals that would need it atm. England test cricket works well with the BBC having the rights to digital clips, so they can show the action on the website and social media ahead of the highlights. The FA Cup also currently works well [laments the termination of the current arrangement] where both broadcasters can post clips from any game (bar blackout) straight away, so the goals from non-UK televised and ITV matches are on the BBC Sport website.

To cover off Super League+, the free section suggests that is just takes the Sky commentary (which is not surprising really). The free section has 2.5 minute edits of the matches on SL+ and five minute edits of the Sky exclusive games. There is also an archive section; this is not too extensive (every Grand Final since 2017 and a few other matches going back to 2016), though all are complete with Sky commentary, graphics and DOG. There's some features and additional content there as well. The log in details were the same as the OuRLeague streaming platform.

I was going to comment that the bottom seems the default for rugby league, but then I checked some FOX NRL stuff and see they are currently using a scoreboard on the top of the screen (which actually look quite nice, even of the colour highlighting for each team could be more clear).

Elsewhere, I think it does speak for itself that nobody has really copied TNT/BT Sport in their decade of doing it. But, in the wider sense, football and rugby are really amongst the minority with most scoreboards/time graphics somewhere near the bottom (Wimbledon for some reason bucking the trend amongst tennis a notable exception).

I’m reminded of ESPN UK’s short lived PRL coverage which not only brought us a fairly unique implementation of a bottom scorebar, it was also the only rugby union scorebar I ever saw count down, and I was glad that never caught on. Counting down makes more sense in league though, where the different rules mean the game will typically come to an end fairly quickly after the clock goes red, whereas in union it can be a couple of minutes depending on the situation (particular if the team in possession need another score as opposed to being happy to cut and run).

More people watched the rugby league yesterday on the BBC than they did on Channel 4 last season. Though the number is not massively impressive, a net win there for the new arrangement.

Although all C4's games were early afternoon.

Due to police intervention, the Carabao Cup final next Sunday kicks off at an earlier time than normal, at 15:00 rather than 16:30. This means, unfortunately for Sky, that the 'warm-up' Premier League fixture of Wolves v. Sheffield United will clash with the start of the cup final. This is a notably lower profile Super Sunday game than normal, which has often included a 'big six' side IIRC, so they were obviously prepared for this.

The clash means the PL game is set to be shown on Sky Sports Premier League only, with Sky Sports Main Event and Football airing SPFL action before 60 minutes build-up from Wembley.

It also looks like the Six Nations has planned to be clashing with the cup final by having the lowest profile match in the UK & Ireland, France v. Italy, directly clashing. I think it has often been a Italy match in that slot in recent years, but I don't think that has always been the case.
