The two big questions here is for Australia's reputation on being able to host major sporting events after the 2026 Commonwealth Games. And for the IOC, the first Games awarded under their new process of a preferred bidder (which was supposed to be a cheaper, albeit less democratic and open process) to fall apart doesn't look good.

Anyway, I'm sure Doha or Riyadh will be willing to step in(!) Those would be a better timezone for the UK audience at least...

Been murmurings for a few weeks. These sort of pre-games jitters aren't unusual but the behind closed doors approach the IOC have begun taking us partly to try and circumvent local opposition by awarding the ganes before locals get the chance to oppose.

Broadcasting wise I'd imagine Nine would not be willing to pay what it's paying for 2024-2032 if the 2032 games moved from Australia. From our point of view I suspect London would be a front runner to step in, but that would still fall under the Discovery deal and it would be a travesty for a home games to have such limited free to air coverage, but might kick politicians into gear in to protecting the games fully.

I doubt London could step up in that short notice.

BBC Wales' football podcast Feast of Football will have a televised special after the news tonight.

To the match itself, and I've been mildly irritated that BBC Wales advertises that they have highlights and radio coverage on Thursday, but do not mention S4C's coverage, unlike with the rugby. I know S4C's rugby coverage is produced by BBC Wales so that is why they advertise it, but to the average viewer that will be lost.

Saying that, S4C usually do go quite strong on advertising their international football coverage online usually.

It's eight years to go now. In the previous bidding process, the hosts would usually be awarded seven years ahead (London 2012 was awaded in 2005, Rio 2016 in 2009 etc.), so it's no less time than normally would be expected.

Almost all of London's sporting infrastructure is still there and in use (unlike Rio or Athens) so they would be a sensible candidate. Ahmedabad, India, Jakarta, Indonesia, Doha, Qatar, Madrid, Spain and the Rhine-Rurr area of Germany were the other original candidates per Wikipedia. Germany, Spain and Qatar's sporting infrastructure would be primarially already there if they need to be brought back to the table again.

Those bids didn't really get off the ground though as the IOC gave it to Brisbane before other cities even really knew the process had begun.

It does seem it was just a wobble by Brisbane and ultimately it's too expensive to forfeit. Will certainly be a step down from Paris and LA though - arguably not a bad thing but they won't want to risk another Atlanta, and the Olympic Stadium will be half the size of the 110,000 Sydney held. Ultimately though the Aussies love their sport and by the time it comes around all this will be forgotten.

Sky Sports have agreed a four year deal to show the IPL and WPL cricket, with the former getting underway on Friday.

The EFL has confirmed that the final Championship games of the season (outside of the play offs of course) will all kick off at 12:30pm on Saturday 4th May. If promotion/relegation isn't decided by then, then I'd Sky two picks for that day will be Leeds United v Southampton and Ipswich Town v Huddersfield Town.

Possibly with the rest on red button as they do midweek?

TNT Sports have signed a new deal to continue to show Gallagher Premiership rugby. If the current format remains, they will broadcast every game live.

Staying on the topic of rugby union, I was watching an ad break from 1991, on YouTube, and there was a trailer for the 1991 rugby world cup, which was broadcast by ITV. At this time, itv and Channel 4 were still linked, so was there anything stopping itv putting some games on Channel 4?
