The short answer to that question is “Channel 4”.

Meanwhile, here’s the PRL press release. Contains the perhaps silly worded statement “Discovery+ is not available in Ireland” which should really have said “TNT Sports is not available on Discovery+ in Ireland”.

Not clear how long the new deal is for.

An inevitable change there considering all matches of the two other main European league have long been part of their broadcast details.

Weird that the deal length was not mentioned, but it is believed to be a two year deal. I guess they might have kept it vague so if the league goes back up to 12 teams in 2025 (there's been a lot of disquiet about the massive gap since the last match before this week with only 10 teams) they can renegotiate to show every match, which will be more than 93 games.

Just on that, there's been positive development about London Irish and Wasps being revived in recent weeks. Only Doncaster from the current Championship outfits can meet the criteria to be promoted for next season, but they are quite a way off the top, and will require a playoff to enter.

Other rugby news is that the URC is continuing its steady growth. But three million viewers globally doesn't sound that amazing when the following week, one Six Nations match would achieve that in the UK alone. But I do think the URC is becoming a great and competitive product, and doing well with all of its unavoidable challenges such as its multinationality.

The South Africans being parachuted in killed the interest for me but be interesting to know if URC fixtures bring in better ratings in SA than the Super 15 did, likely largely due to the better time zone.

Another reason though the European Champions Cup Final clashing with the FA Cup won't be seen as too much of a problem as if it's not French teams it'll probably be South African teams contesting it.

Sticking with rugby (although this time it's the other rugby code and not rugby union), the BBC will be using their own graphics for the Leeds Rhinos v St Helens Challenge Cup tie tomorrow night (as we know, for both the Super League and the World Club Challenge, they have been using the Sky graphics).

You'd assume so. The picks won't be announced of course until after matchday 45 (the weekend of 26-29th April).

Belatedly, but a bumper audience for Man Utd v Liverpool last Sunday - ITV’s biggest draw of the year so far.

5.5 million average, 8.6 million peak at extra time.

No contract signed yet, but the FTA element of Premiership Rugby coverage will include seven live games. I think that's less than currently, and no mention below if that will include the final like present. ITV currently have that contract, with their next live games being Saracens v. Harlequins on Saturday, then Sale v. Exeter the following Sunday.

I think the current deal is 7 games a season including the final. Probably suits ITV not to be any more.

Just thinking, with Wales now being in the play off final, will Viaplay sublet the English language rights and let a free to air broadcaster show it in English as well (possibly BBC Wales maybe?)
