Couple of captures on recent world sport events in Hong Kong, both from public broadcaster RTHK TV 32 (presumably snatching from HoyTV).

FIBA 3x3 Universality Olympic Qualifiers
Mostly the same as the standard match graphics, only in light blue instead of red.

The rather makeshift pundit studio.

Another slightly different scoreboard style.

The full-screen graphic, featuring the match logo and a backdrop with a blue tint. This is perhaps the most 3x3 branding seen throughout the match too, aside from the bumpers in and out of the slow-mos.

Rugby SVNS
Also used the official graphics, but just wanted to commemorate the last time it was played in the Hong Kong Stadium (they're moving to a new one in Kai Tak next year), plus the Men's team winning the new Melrose Shield.

The Chinese title endcard, which looks choppier than the rest...

... like their much bigger studio shot. I suspect it was from a different footage given the different DOG?

Really hate the SVNS logo. Looks like a QR code that doesn't work.

It’s a silly name. I’m not sure what the issue with vowels is.

Not sure if it has been mentioned here before but TNT Sports picked up the rights to it midseason as well as it still being free on Rugbypass.

BBC, ITV and Channel 4 are all in the running to win the rights to next year's Women's Rugby World Cup. Viewing figures are up significantly for the Women's Six Nations, despite England still steamrolling everyone.

The Champions Cup and Challenge Cup rugby union semi-finals schedules have been announced. Leinster v. Northampton live on RTÉ on the Saturday with Toulouse v. Harlequins on ITV on the Sunday. The two Challenge Cup semi-finals are on the Saturday preceding the game in Dublin. S4C's involvement is now over with Ospreys eliminated.

The quarter-finals thankfully did have good attendance all round - I think the Aviva Stadium in Dublin was near to full cappacity, and the other games were rocking as well. The travel combined with the short turnaround did cause issues though, with the two teams that won in South Africa last week (La Rochelle and Bulls) failing to score a point between them in their second halves. La Rochelle had organised their travel before qualifying for the quarters, travelling to Cork via Paris on Monday. The Bulls on the other hand were not prebooked, meaning they had to travel via eight different indirect flights to Europe, not arriving until Thursday and SA Rugby spending over £180 000 - amateur hour there' they also rested a few of their biggest names. Interesting to see that Sharks' home semi-final will be in London; I think this is a competition rule, but maybe should be introduced for earlier knockouts if we have to have back-to-back knockout ties.

There is a lot of moaning and rose-tinted spectacles about continental rugby, but th format and the schedule is by far its biggest flaw.

I was pleasantly surprised to see virtually a full house at the Aviva yesterday, but it was La Rochelle of course. No rugby fan I know is happy with the format - although many are a darn sight happier with this version than with the mad 12 team groups. Most however would love nothing more than the pre-2014, or even the similar 2014-2020 format back, which was essentially the same with four less teams.

From a TV point of view its interesting RTE and ITV went for different matches, which will suit some ROI viewers. With English teams in both semis I’m not sure whether TNT would have preferred both to be showing the Irish v English clash in Croker.

Yeah, that surprised me a bit as well. Will there be some households either side of the border that could get both matches on FTA TV?

Shame the format is a bit of a mess, because the on pitch action maybe the best ever seen. Every match had over 50 points this weekend, with Bordeaux v. Harlequins, then Northampton v. Bulls the highest scoring match ever at this stage of the competition.

Worth noting that BBC Wales for the second time in a week, yesterday failed to show the women's national team on linear TV. This time it was the rugby team, and with hindsight, was an absolutely excellent decision (Ireland winning by over 30 points). BBC iPlayer just took the world feed, with Virgin Media Ireland commentary.

Not sure how feasible it would have been to schedule it on BBC One or BBC Two Wales to be fair. BBC Two was showing live rugby league (that NI had opted out to show live GAA), and BBC One was into its primetime schedule, with Final Score, the news, Weakest Link and Bridge of Lies needing to have been dropped. That BBC One line-up wasn't the greatest line-up ever, but I guess they would have been popular enoough to mak that a hard decision. Same goes for BBC NI, though even harder to justify having opt-out sport on both channels. Once again, it looks like it wasn;t even shown on the linear Red Button channel.

Yes. NI platforms carry both RTE and UTV, but some sport is blacked out on RTE (not sure if Champions Cup rugby is among them).

No mainstream platforms in ROI carry UTV any more (removed generally from cable on 1st January 2015) but Sky satellite viewers can use Manual Tuning for UTV and it can be accessed on free to air satellite too.

About 50-60% of Nothern Ireland can also get Saorview RTE.
