The reality is though the viewers aren't there in the same numbers and where it's a factor the advertisers aren't either. Plus the big factor here is the timezone, but even without it traditionally PSBs budget for a big football tournament every other year and can't magic up the same figure in odd years for the women's equivalent now, just as despite FIFAs expectations they won't find an extra 40% to pay for the extra 40 games in the World Cup.

I can see this one resulting in last minute deals which ultimately will do nobody any favours and result in broadcasters giving it less attention than had they been able to promote it and plan in the months ahead.

Great to see F1 broadcaster Jennie Gow is making very good progress on her path of recovery from a stroke in a feature for The One Show earlier. She is obviously not yet back at 100% of what she used to be, but the progress from the home footage in Januuary and her cameo appearance on the BBC Chequered Flag podcast in March is noticeable and very encouraging.

Although not yet back broadcasting, Jennie has shadowed the BBC Radio F1 coverage from London for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and did similar for the Extreme E event in Scotland ten days ago.

Final day Premier League picks concentrated on the relegation battle. I think BT normally passed on the final day, but they’ve one this year which will be their last ever Premier League game as BT Sport.

Everton v Bournemouth (Sky)
Leicester v West Ham (Sky)
Leeds v Spurs (BT)
(Premier Sports also has a game in Ireland, not yet announced but which I suspect will be determined by what teams they haven’t maxed on already).

No surprises there with the title tied up. Surely though regardless of what happens with the rest of the season the next deal (I'm guessing out to tender this summer) has to include all final day games.

Doesn’t appear they will do that.

Likewise the televised fixtures for the final day of the Women's Super League season on Saturday have been announced. The televised fixtures will concentrate on the title deciders, with Reading v. Chelsea on Sky and Liverppol v. Manchester United on BBC One (note the wrong BBC One logo used below). Reading are also in relegation contention. I presume the other fixtures will be on FA Player as per usual.

I haven't been paying that much attention to it, but I've just noticed that the Eurosport Cube has had another new look for the Giro d'Italia cycling coverage (and presumably beyond).

It reminds me a bit of the 'pagoda' the BBC Tokyo 2020 coverage was based in more than the previous cubes. I think it looks better than the previous version, which looked rather fake and clinical (especially with sillouhetes lurking in the background etc.)

Motorsport Broadcasting suggesting that Jack Nicholls will no longer commentate for the Formula E Global feed with immediate effect. He'd been there since the start, so this is a significant upheaval, particularly halfway through a season. Admittedly, Vernon Kay also left at this point, but that was to do with his radio commitments, and it was handled on air rather than via a press release.

Now confirmed by Formula E themselves. With Vernon Kay leaving to join Radio 2 full-time and Niki Shields starting maternity leave soon, Radzi Chinyanganya will become main presenter for Jakarta with Saunders Carmichael-Brown joining as new reporter. Ben Edwards and Karun Chandhok will be the commentary team for the next race. The prescence of Karun is a reminder of another significant upheaval in the broadcast this season with Dario Franchitti cutting down his prescence on the Formula E calendar. Quite a bit of change this year after very little in the first nine years of the series.
