This really is a big blow if she is leaving ITV for TNT. Great on The NFL Show and brings the same authority to ITV's football matches as any of the male presenters.

I was frustrated when Laura's final appearance on ITV Sport at the FA Cup Final was a couple of token touchline lives with a female pundit when she's more than capable of hosting the show.

The BBC have done so well in making Alex Scott a success, yet ITV can't keep their best hope of having a strong female presenter.

Nobody has said she is leaving ITV, especially as her role there is generally when the Premier League isn't in action.   The days of presenters being exclusive to one channel are long gone - though if she ended up doing the Premier League and Champions League then yes, she wouldn't need the ITV job.   Suspect though she might still be used for the Euros/World Cup even if not during the season.

Is there actually any suggestion that she is leaving ITV? Today's announcment says that she will be leaving talkSPORT Breakfast, and previous reports have said she will be presenting UCL coverage for TNT Sports. Obviously being on the radio on weekday mornings and on the TV on weekday nights couldn't work, but there's no reason why she can't continue with ITV. Plenty of other names have appeared on multiple broadcasters over a season when their roles do not overlap (e.g. the current ITV lead football host presenting BT Sport Score) so I'm not seeing any reason why Laura will leave her ITV commitments.

(Unless I've missed reports suggesting the above, but I couldn't see anything)

Meanwhile, EPCR have announced a new format for the Heineken Champions Cup. There will be four pool of six with each team playing four pool games against the four teams not from their league either home OR away (i.e. in an imaginary group, Leinster would play Bristol, Saracens, Toulon and Racing 92 but not Ulster). The top four from each group qualify for a single-legged round of 16, and the rest should be obvious.

The Challenge Cup sees 18 teams compete in three groups of six, with two "invited clubs" (likely South African teams like Cheetahs like last year, or possibly Rugby Europe Super Cup sides) joining the other teams from the URC, Premiership and TOP14. The fifth place sides from the Champions Cup pools drop down to the Challenge Cup knockouts.

A slightly more convential format, with a Swiss-style format almost being compelety ditched. Not 100% fantastic though that one team does not play every other team in their pool, and there will obviously some losers/winners of playing different sides home and away. The pool stage draw is next Wednesday, with the finals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next May.

There were a couple of occasions where Mark Pougatch appeared on ITV and BT Sport on the same day - in one case, it was cricket followed by Score (in adjacent studios, which was handy!) and on another, he finished Score at 5pm and was presenting boxing from the O2 an hour later.

They can't just keep things simple can they.   Think playing all 5 group opponents then starting knock-outs with quarter finals would be better.   Yes, that's means a 2/3 split on home and away fixtures but if it's good enough for the Six Nations it's good enough here.

I think Sky need to turn things off and on again:

prior to relocating to this position, the presenter spent a few links in front of a dark screen at the desk.

[edit] back up and running again at the top of the hour.

Now that it's been confirmed, who will show the opening game and which channel will show which England game?

Good news about the Women's World Cup being shown on the BBC and ITV as common sense finally prevails.
