The World Rugby graphics have improved a great deal since they seemed stuck in the late 1990s for years, but they now look they’ve borrowed a bit from NBC!

Out-of-date 3D-ness aside, they are quite a nice graphics package. They have some different but good ways of displaying some info, like yellow cards for example.

The streaming issues were solved just ahead of England v. Ireland, with the upcoming YouTube streams also reappearing.

For some reason on the website stream the rewind/fast forward/pause buttons are stuck on screen throughout. Not a one-off incident either.

S4C have a presenter and pundit and onsite but commentary definitely offtube. They have had a few picture blackouts already (no issues on the YouTube feed) and the commentary was stumped for a few seconds with just a black screen to work with.

UPDATE: S4C have just gone to their own camera pitchside rather than show further picture blackout. Back to the main feed after 10 seconds or so, but a good idea to allow the commentators to actually commentate.

I wonder if it wasn't for Queens and Eastbourne whether the BBC might have done a bit more - most flagship events seem to take place between 1-7pm so an afternoon show on BBC1/2 would have sufficed with events outside those times on the iPlayer.  The European Sport Championships, which got all day coverage last year, rated really well for BBC2 - and though we're missing the flagship Olympic events there is enough there where Britain has interest to attract a casual audience.
Even with no live coverage I'm sure the EBU are producing a daily highlights programme which could have been stuck on the iPlayer.

It is indeed the world feed commentary of Phil Minshull, Alex Seftel and Hannah England being heard via the BBC Sport streams of the athletics. I think it redirects to the iPlayer homepgae rather than Glastonbury coverage directly, but of course that is dominating iPlayer this weekend. When in Germany, the link redirects to the Sportstudio page of the ZDF website, so it probably would have been better if the UK link redirected to the BBC Sport homepage. In Ireland, it does not redirect anywhere, but it does say 'In Partnership with RTÉ' in the top left corner of the navigation pages.

I'm 50/50 on whether the BBC would have dedicated more coverage to the event if they had more space in the schedules. On one hand, previous events like Munich last year have rated well and presumably the biggest cost of broadcasting an event (the cost of the rights) has already been signed off, so the smallish extra costs compared to the usual schedule could be justified methinks.
But on the other hand, the coverage made available to broadcasters is rather limited, most notably with very little commentary feeds being produced. In summer multi-sport events the BBC have wisely used/relied on world feed commentary for a lot of minor sports (and not so minor sports like rugby sevens despite there being plenty of people in and around BBC Sport who cover rugby) which would not be possible here.  It wouldn't be acceptable to broadcast something without commentary on BBC Two, and I don't think there would be much merit for the BBC to hire commentators to cover beach handball for one week. It could be a chicken and egg situation that if a broadcaster as notable as the BBC wanted world feed commentaries, the organisers in Poland would have made a bigger effort possibly, but as it is there's very little covergae outside of the EBU-hosted live streams on  EuropeanGames.tv.
Another possibilty is that this level of limited coverage was what was agreed by the EOC and EBU in advance, as like in the UK, in Italy and Germany (and likely other nations), only the athletics is being shown on TV.

The only highlights packages I have come across is ones like the below on the official YouTube channel. Being not much over 20 minutes long (two videos per day by the look of it) and without commentary, they would barely be worth putting on iPlayer. Incidentally, I came across similar packages from Minsk 2019 of a similar standard but slightly longer - the graphics are certainly a whole lot better four years later!

It really is poor - even for streaming nowadays having virtually no commentary at all shouldn't be considered acceptable. Not sure of the relationship between the IOC and the EOC but clearly funds aren't filtering down, but even with most the individual sporting federations if they were streaming their own event they'd probably have some form of commentary.

Have to wonder why the EBU took it on considering none of their members seem to want to show it.

Yesterday, Sky Sports released their line-up for the upcoming tennis coverage, beginning with the US Open in August and then both tours over the next few years.

Gigi Salmon, who is doing a great job hosting Eastbourne for the BBC this week, will be the lead presenter, with Tim Henman and Martina Navratilova the headline pundits. A bit sad to see, but perfectly understandable, that their is a fairly clean break from the Amazon Prime personnel and from the previous Sky Tennis era (Catherine Whittaker and Marcus Buckland the lead hosts of those teams notable omissions).

Oh, didn't realise they had the US Open this year. A shame Amazon have given it up and people now basically meed to pay Premier League prices to follow the sport, although should give the tour events a higher profile to general sports fans.

Surely they'll launch or rebrand a channel as Sky Sports Tennis next year.

Tim Henman and Martina  Navratilova have been fairly prominent on Amazon as pundits so it’s only really the non ex tennis personnel that is changing.

Sky brought it with the hope of Emma Radacanu being prominent but that is not looking so likely and the sport is heading into a transition period where interest will be lower in her real.

Probably best to put it here: TV Azteca is to launch Azteca Deportes as a dedicated 24-hour channel.
Quote:In an event where executives from the television station were present, as well as strategic partners such as Multimedios, Samsung and Roku, Fernando Muñiz, director of Distribution and Strategic Alliances of TV Azteca, presented the new channel focused 100% on sports and which seeks to differentiate itself of the offer that exists in the market, thanks to the fact that it is a 24/7 signal.

“In this channel we dedicate ourselves 100% to sports, we are a sports entertainment signal, where we will have the best of the Mexican basketball, American football, baseball, boxing leagues, among others. We have our friends at AYM Sports as allies, with high-level productions” he mentioned.

For Rodolfo Ramírez, director of Azteca Deportes, this area has evolved, mainly in broadcast TV, which is why they take this growth to create a new window for sport exposure, through a different product, "which we are sure will be a success. We took on the challenge of building the brand in the digital field and the results have been wonderful, so we will continue doing what we know, with the passion and heart that moves us every day”.

S4C will show highlights of Wales women's football team's matches for the rest of 2022. The women's game now has a broadcast arrangment which is directly opposite of the men's team (on FTA TV) with the women's team live on BBC Wales until 2027.
