Sky to lose Super League to DAZN?

That feels quite risky though maybe less do if they keep an FTA partner (and ideally add the Grand Final) but Sky have been squeezing the budgets on their lower profile rights for a few years now and with the PL rights up for grabs again once again other sports will pay the price.

Discovery+'s live streams have had an upgarde ahead of the Tour de France. There is now a timeline of events to toggle through, with some of the buttons also moving around. It looks like, at least for the Tour de France, the multi-language audio options are in a separate stream.

It's still a little bit too cumbersome to navigate to get to the action playing, but one there this looks like a helpful update. Presumably this was done ahead of TNT Sports joining Discovery+ later this month, the BT Sport enhanced player streams have this feature.

As ever, coverage rather scarce for Le Tour in the UK (joking). Eurosport/Discovery+/GCN+, ITV 4 and S4C are providing live coverage of every stage.

A rather lowkey start to the Eurosport coverage, with Jonathan Harris-Bass hosting out-of-vision rather than any studio/onsite presentation from Orla Chennaoui et al.

That would be a huge change, I don’t think the sport has ever been off Sky since before Super League’s inception (and they are still using Carpe Diem which must be some sort of record for any Sky Sports-related piece of music). Interesting move for DAZN too, NFL GamePass (which is essentially a separate service being hosted in their app) aside, it would be their highest profile non-boxing acquisition, even though it’s a very regionally concentrated sport.

Part of Dazn’s problem is that they are very reliant on boxing, which itself is reliant on high profile fights every so often , there’s likely to be a segment of the audience effectively treating it as PPV by signing for a month when there’s a big fight (the reason the non-contract price went up to €20pm, of course). So they need stuff that will hold an audience over a longer period.

Eurosport UK's pre-race studio coverage didn't air due to technical issues. Two steps forward, one step back.

Or will it be like the very similar stories about DAZN and the Football League rights?

Not surprised that FC Barcelona shut down their dedicated TV station after 24 years, especially as a lot of clubs moved on to digital platforms and social media (particularly with the transfer window). In the UK, Liverpool FC and Manchester United (both currently play in the Premier League) still have active TV stations on the air.

Should have just used the main graphics package*, that is rather ugly from the live BBC cricket.

*They did for the previous scorecards in the end of match round-up.
