Unlike in previous years of the contract, it does not look like ITV will show any live coverage of the World Rugby Under 20 Championship. In previous editions, ITV 4 has aired highlights of the pool stage before airing the semi-finals and final live on ITV 4. This year, there is only highlights scheduled tonight at 23:35 (for the semi-finals) and on Friday night at 00:05 (for the final) on ITV 4. This is slightly understandable with Tour de France coverage taking precedent on ITV 4, and it saves needing to bring in Jill Douglas & co. and hire a studio etc. for the coverage, but still disappointing that their is no linear coverage of the event, despite ITV having the rights and showing it in the past. The semi-finals are not being made available at all by ITV on linear or digital platforms (so even less effort than what we've criticised Channel 4 for over the last few days), but both matches have been made available on the World Rugby YouTube channel (Ireland v. South Africa at 15:30, England v. France at 18:00 BST).

Meanwhile, Georgia v. Wales in the 5th-8th place play-off semi-finals is live on S4C and their YouTube, whilst both semi-finals and the other 5th-8th semi (New Zealand v. Australia) are live in Ireland on Virgin Media Two.

I’ve never figured out why the SuperSport one needs to be quite that big, but it’s always seemed to be that way as far as I can remember.

Looks like SuperSport first moved their scoreboard to the whole of the bottom of the screen in 2003. I admire their persistence, especially in these days with such a thing not being very mobile friendly etc.

PS Nice to see the spirit of the old Sky NZ spinning ball style still live on in the Japanese rugby graphics, that look more horribly outdated every year they continue.

Again YouTube is easier but baffling if not on ITV4 why they didn't put a pop-up channel on ITVX given they're pushing that.

I guess they have only paid for highlights this year, given the clashes with Tour de France (although the final on Friday does not) and losing a lot of the sport audience to Wimbledon already they didn't think it worth it.

I thought they got the rights along with the men's and women's senior World Cups, but looking at the reports from the rights announcment in 2017, the Under 20s rights is oddly only until 2019, and also didn't include the 2021(2) women's World Cup. So maybe they did a bit of cost saving in the partial extension to only have highlights. But then what's the point in having the rights, making your own special programme and airing at 11:30pm or midnight?

The Welsh language feed of the BBC Wales broadcast of the women's football between the USA and Wales is using the UEFA Men's Friendlies graphics in a very random develpoment. I'd presume this commentary will be taken for S4C's highlights tomorrow evening which might explain that a little.

BBC One Wales is using the standard BBC Sport graphics. Surprised they've got a clean feed tbh, thought we would be seeing an early debut of TNT Sports in the UK as TNT are broadcasting the match in the US.

With the World Aquatics Championships starting in Fukoka, Japan on Friday, there is once again no UK broadcaster currenlty scheduled to show the events.

Last year, the swimming was shown live on BBC iPlayer only (so we had the rather odd set-up with the European Championships getting better coverage than the World Championships) via a deal agreed by the EBU (that I think was only announced the day before the competitions began). The previous edition was only available behind a paywall on the FINA website, with the BBC showing daily highlights; this was blamed on World Aquatics/FINA asking for too much money from broadcasters globally, with there being no live coverage in many other European nations and in Australia most notably.
This does not look to be the case this year, with many other European countries getting FTA coverage, with the UK a very notable abscence in the list on the official website below. Action will be shown live on the EBU-operated All Aquatics site and behind a paywall on the World Aquatics Recast channel (not sure if any events will be exclusive to Recast otherwise there's little point in it being available).

It's unfortunate timing that the event will take place the same time as the FIFA Women's World Cup and in a smilar timezone (the 2023 edition was originally meant to be in Doha with Fukuoka hosting in 2021 then 2022) which would make it understandable for the BBC (as they are the most likely to broadcast this) not to show the event on its linear channels but a bit disappointing there is, at the moment, no iPlayer coverage either.

Sadly the downgrade of the red button seems to be reducing the BBC's desire to screen such things, even if they are pushing streaming on the iPlayer. In addition as you say now womens football is being given similar treatment to the mens event, rightly or wrongly, that is taking resources in the years when traditionally more minor sports have got more of a luck in with their world championships.

Reports that TNT Sports have also bid for Super League rugby league rights, with bosses unhappy over the reduced offer from long term partners Sky.

Over in Italy, sports streaming service DAZN and Italian telco TIM were both fined by the AGCM (the Italian Competition Authority) over Serie A exclusivity on the platform, including bundling that cannot be done competitively. This is especially as they had technical issues due to overcrowded servers for some of the matches

The AGCM fined DAZN over €7.2m (or around £6.2m) and TIM over €760k (or around £650k).
