Even more so when you think in a few weeks a broadcaster with far less overall budget will have studio coverage for the likes of Romania v. Tonga.

And really terrible audio on the Argentina v. South Africa game on Sky Sports Action. It's like it's buffering, but there's more gaps than actual sound - quite unlistenable. There is a caption on screen, 'We're sorry about the sound problems'. Not sure if this a problem with ESPN (the host broadcaster), SuperSport (the commentary's broadcaster) or Sky themselves.
The picture looks perfect though.

UPDATE: Now playing in complete silence, which is far from ideal but better than the bitty broken audio.

A further update on the Indycar qualifying, and although the Sky EPG hasn't updated to show the rescheduled live coverage of qualifying, Sky Sports F1 were scheduled to have a repeat of the qualifying, from 22:30-00:00, but qualifying is scheduled from 23:15-00:45 now, so not too much tweaking needed, and no other events affected.

Sounds like the audio and commentary is back in the 12th minute.

UPDATE: And the gremlins are back in the 20th minute.

UPDATE: The choppy audio continued for almost all of the first half, with very minor resbites. Sky didn't revert to muting the audio. Hopefully it's better in the second half.

Does feel like Amazon are stepping back with the rugby - where they do have hosts the pundits seem to be the co-commentators too.

I wouldn't be surprised if it goes the same way as the tennis now they've got the Champions League, although if matches must be on pay-TV then Amazon is by far my preferred choice - not just the cheapest option but prior to this summer series at least probably the best coverage too - essentially BBC coverage on Prime.

The BBC netball coverage today is coming from the green screen studio used by the football yesterday. With the background being the Cape Town landscape, it's like being back at the 2010 FIFA World Cup (unless they are on top of a hospital again)!

Would events supply such a backdrop for virtual studio use or would the BBC have to source them? Even relatively minor events done from the VR studio tend to have a city backdrop.

I think there might be a more generic version that has been used once or twice but if anything it's the football and rugby (Rugby Special) which has the most generic look.

Definitelynot green screen indeed:

Although todays game that RhysJR is referring to did come from a virtual set.

Not sure if this is the reason, but Argentina v South Africa hasn’t appeared on catch up on Now whereas the NZ v Australia game covered by the same rights deal and played earlier the same day is there.
