BBC News Pres: 2022 - Present

Not that having a crew means your shots will be good anyway, This currently airing on the news channel:

Contrast seems to be at 11 and worse.. the tripod isn't even level. Who are these cameramen?!  Big Grin

It may well be a iPhone on a tripod. At the weekend on the local politics show, there was a wide shot during a VT of the reporter using her iPhone on a tripod for a close up shot of the guest.

Marginal issues I think.  Building sloping slightly isn't a huge distraction to a normal viewer.   Contrast issue is because its shot to highlight location,  so building must be seen, but sky is overcast white cloud.

I'd far rather see the reporters face properly,  always a shooting issue with brown and black faces  on quick setups and mobile devices, than worry about slight over exposure. She's the one communicating something and should be seen.

In zoom/Skype newsstand this shot really isn't a big deal

Yup its really nit picky, but as a photographer the first thing your taught when laying your tripod down is to level it, so I felt like I had to mention it. (And its like a 10 second operation to do so..)

One of the boxes on the Nations & Regions wall at the end of the Six was a shot of a red sofa (I think?) in front of a nighttime cityscape backdrop, but no presenter sat/stood there!

Not sure which region it was.

None of the English Regions other than Hull looked to be in one of the touring temporary sets (i.e. the one that would have previously been in Birmingham).

So, this is now the 3rd consecutive week with seemingly no additional English Region de-camping. Are they determined for the process of rolling-out the LED sets to be as protracted as possible?!

There are currently 3 regions in temporary sets - Look Levy, Channel Islands and Reporting Scotland - so I'm not surprised that there isn't another English region in a temporary set at the moment, which would take the total of regions in temporary accommodation up to 4.

St Helier will no doubt be a logistical/practical nightmare for those involved given the studio's small size, whilst re. Reporting Scotland, it was said in the Scotland News thread by ScottishTVGuy in January that it'll be 5 month transformation, so I think it'll slow down on the nations/regions front for the next little while whilst Hull, CI and Reporting Scotland are getting their new sets done.

Based on the previous de-camping of Nottingham & Birmingham largely overlapping, it was previously surmised that there are probably two specialist crews of LED set installers - and two prescribed temporary sets - touring the regions (and/or nations?). Given the dates/timing, Hull must currently have the temporary set previously used in Nottingham.

Given the tiny size of the St Helier studio, it is reasonable to suppose that whatever new set they're getting won't be made out of LED screens (and therefore they don't need the specialist installation crews touring elsewhere).

When RepScot first de-camped, there was some supposition that they - being a Nation - might have another installation crew seperate from the two that it was hitherto supposed might've only been touring specifically the English Regions. Perhaps Glasgow have in fact now got the crew who were previously in Birmingham, after all. In which case, Belfast must've (perhaps?) had a crew who then went on to either Nottingham or Brum.

The two rather small and basic prescribed temporary sets are clearly only touring English Regions, as neither Belfast nor Glasgow have used these. The ex-Brum temp set will presumably now not appear until a crew is available to do an LED set installation at another English Region, and it will be a while before we get to having two English Regions de-camped simultaneously again.

It looks like Huw has been persuaded to stay for "up to three years".

Quote:BBC Confident Of Signing New Deal With Huw Edwards Amid Presenter Exodus

EXCLUSIVE: The BBC is confident that it will stem the flow of its presenter exodus by signing a new deal with its highest-profile news anchor.

Deadline can reveal that BBC sources expect Huw Edwards to commit himself to the broadcaster for up to three years, ending speculation about his future.

Edwards, 61, is the BBC’s best-known and joint highest-paid news presenter. He has spoken recently about scaling back his duties, but BBC insiders are optimistic they have convinced him to stay after his standout year in 2022.

He is now expected to continue hosting BBC1’s 10PM bulletins, as well as playing a central role in the corporation’s coverage of King Charles III’s coronation in May. He will also be the face of the BBC’s general election output next year.

That's all well and good, but they've butchered the framerate of the titles...
