BBC News Pres: 2022 - Present

Not too surpising given wider plans and they have recently invested in their Nairobi facility as a new Africa hub, complete with TV studio already used by some WS language services. As plans currently stand for the merger, Focus still coming from London would require a third studio and gallery team, so this move does make a lot of sense. Though I would liked to have seen Studio E lit up in yellow and green.

I wonder if we'll see greater utilisation of the Delhi studio in the future as well. India is BBC News' biggest market (65m users per week) and a BBC World News India programme airing two 30-minute editions from Delhi at say 14:30 and 15:30 UKT (20:00 and 21:00 IST) would free up London to do UK focussed back half hours during the afternoon. (Though this would, of course, be unnecessary if they did something eminently sensible like keeping the One presenter on for afternoons, etc.).

It's nice to see the plaudits the BBC local radio presenters who got to interview Liz Truss this morning are getting. A lot of people who were predicting cozy chats and posting Alan Partridge GIFs on Twitter have had to eat their words.

I have said it before but that role of local radio as a talent incubator for the rest of the BBC is something that those looking for budget cuts overlook at their peril. Hopefully this morning's output will have

Rima Ahmed of Radio Leeds was particularly impressive, she's a former solicitor who won the BBC New Voices talent search competition in 2019, did afternoons for a couple of years and only took over the Breakfast show three weeks ago. She should go far.

1999? 2019, surely?

Is the 9pm Ten trailer ditched? Haven’t seen that for some months…

Hopefully the prominence of BBC Local Radio in the last few days will mean the BBC a will stop all the cuts to the service. Put it back to how it was pre-pandemic instead of the bland 4 hour music heavy shows we get now.

I think it's going to take a lot more than one politician's rather dire media performance for that...

Very sad news if it’s true. Love Dateline and love Shaun Ley.

Baffling decision. Some great insights from many knowledgeable contributors over the years. Managed to catch one of the airings most weekends. Surely can't be that expensive to make?
