But it's in the BBC management's interest to blow this up as well. The number of NC presenters needs to be slimmed down ready for the merger. I suspect the high-profile UK daytime World News presenters are safe (Lucy Hockings, Yalda Hakim, Matthew A, Ros Atkins, Christian Fraser) and some higher profile NC ones, such as Jane Hill, Joanna Gosling, Ben Brown (if they want to stay on that is).

Finding an excuse like this to let go of Martine over a storm in a teacup being whipped up by the BBC's biggest political detractors is too convenient for BBC management.

Well then if Martine is cleared it should be the BBC Management that took her off air that should be let go-with their P45's.

Don’t be silly. Suspension is not an accusation of guilt. This is common practice in all industries when an investigation is taking place.

FWIW - yes, she seems to have been pushing it lately. No, that wouldn’t be used as an excuse to get rid of her. The people she works with (and under) may well broadly support her views.

The way I see it, if she was a guest on HIGNFY and made the comments this Friday, would anyone bat an eyelid? Would anyone question her impartiality covering the news afterward?

At least she said it on the Papers, not (as an example) as a relief presenter for the Ten.

I don’t think she’s been pushing it. She’s had an opinion about her workplace. Ok, she’s name checked the BBC News Channel a lot lately but then most of the trailers for shows shown on the news channel refer to it as …. The BBC News Channel.

From the clip, she perhaps could be accused of being a little over excited but then it’s the personality she brings to the news that we all like her for.

Apologies if this has already been asked, but are there new edits to the domestic countdowns? I noticed this on Martine Croxhall's twitter feed and can't say I've seen it before.

twitter.com

I think they’re mocks, made as a suggestion (lovely though that autumn one is). The point of them really is to feature the presenters, reporters and crews.

The problem for Martine is that being rather critical of the BBC news channel changes, has only put her as a target more than anything else. Certain people at the BBC have likely been waiting for her to do a critical slip up and she's only gone and done it.

And who's to say they would have kept her with the channel merger? Just remember what they tried to do with Martyn Lewis in 1999....they wanted to kick him off to World and he wasn't having any of it. Only this time, there won't be a World to be side lined to.

If anything, this might cause her to be more cautious about calling out the BBC, if she doesn't want the axe to fall on her.

Can I just say how much I'm enjoying watching the Shaun Ley masterclass in reporting and presenting from Downing Street this afternoon.

His historical knowledge of the political scene from his early life as a political reporter, context he gives and explaining things to the viewer in a down to earth way is outstanding.

I really hope he remains on our screens when the two channels merge.

Eek! (Don't throw rotten fruit at me)... I feel the opposite today. Way too overbearing. Nick Eardley looks like he's also feeling it judging by his reaction to Shaun's constant interruption. Sure his knowledge and understanding of Politics is top class, but he's way too excited for my liking.

It's a shame that they almost certainly aren't going to be doing specialist programming on the new channel, because I could really see Ley presenting something like a weekly review of British and European politics on a Sunday evening.

The closing theme from the Six O Clock News sounded quite 2007
