Global radio brands

The Capital brand of radio stations have rebranded today with the "FM" having been dropped (presumably with the focus on listening digitally). A lot more lighter colours and a bit more minimalist.

What does that say about a channel if it scares fish? Just talk me through that.

Interesting that "Dance" in the Capital Dance logo is still in the old typeface -- you'd think they'd want to change that to match, especially given the logo looks more askew than previously like this.

Old typeface? They haven't changed it. They just extended the T to line up with the A and changed the main station's holding shape to match Xtra's because they removed the frequency from the logo.

Also worth pointing out Capital have adopted KIIS FM (Los Angeles)'s jingles recently, with a custom package coming before the end of the year according to RadioToday:

The typeface has changed, actually, swapping out ITC Avant Garde Gothic (as in the previous logo and "Dance" type) for Campton (compare the "C" letterforms between the first post and the old logo in the SoundCloud link). The change does appear quite slight at first, but having already seen the font in action in the current look of Germany's ProSieben, I noticed it right away.

A good move to remove the frequencies - 96-106 is virtually the whole radio dial, it doesn't exactly help anyone find it

Well exactly, and they’re also on 107.2 in Brighton and 107.6 in Liverpool.

I've always found it humorous that Capital classes itself as the "UK's number 1 hit music station", discarding BBC Radio 1 because it broadcasts significant speech output and specialist music (even though that's what OFCOM says they have to do).

It's worth noting that "FM" or the frequencies was dropped from the branding years ago in favour of simply Capital on air, and Capital followed by the location on the DAB service labels. It's just the logos that weren't updated to reflect, which have now finally been changed.

The only remaining holdout now seems to be the website domain, which remains capitalfm.com.

That’s because they are and always have been.

I understand that but it seems a bit odd to call yourself number 1 because in your (Global's) eyes, you think your biggest competitor isn't a hit music station. It's that type of thing that needs to be declared by OFCOM or an outsider, not the parent company of the station.
