French TV - US Midterms
#1

Franceinfo will be starting up earlier on Wednesday morning, covering the US mid-term elections from 3am CET/2am UK rather than relying on France 24.

I wonder why they are doing this, after all them relaying France 24 during the night isn't that different from BBC News relaying BBC World News

The special edition will also be aired on RTBF in Belgium, RTS in Switzerland, Radio-Canada, the French speaking PSB in Canada and TV5MONDE.

So that's why they are starting at 3am! BTW feels quite weird to me that these other broadcasters will not do their own coverage, instead they will simulcast France Info

LCI will be on air until 2am then between 4am and 5am with Émilie Broussouloux and Damien Givelet (hosts of the 10/12 weekend) and Les Matins LCI will be on air early at 5am.

BFMTV will be on air all night with coverage starting at 11pm.

Separately, LCI has been climbing in the ratings lately, hitting 1.9% of audience share in October, up 0.9% year-on-year, CNEWS is at 2.2% as a comparison.

LCI is often in front of BFMTV (CNEWS and franceinfo) between 6pm and midnight on weekends and often on weekdays too (especially the 10pm/midnight slot with Eric Brunet). However, they did exceptionally well on Monday being in front of all other news channels between noon and 8pm (and then from 10pm to midnight).

Looks like LCI has benefitted from being back on Canal+, which I'm sure will help TF1 again as they've been behind France 2 during the dispute.

BFMTV is more on the spot with the analysis-angle this election coverage.

Completely inaudible on LCI where they booked 2 Republicans, Laurence Haim who's constantly trying to correct what they are saying with the actual facts, and who knows who else the other 2 are given how little they've been able to get a word in. Émilie Broussouloux and Damien Givelet seem totally lost and to be honest, not really their field of expertise. A shame Darius Rochebin wasn't drafted in to host.

There are subtle differences with the on-screen graphics during the France Télévisions produced election show.

Franceinfo has their logo with no flipper.
France 2 has the Franceinfo logo covered up with "midterms"
TV5MONDE has the Franceinfo logo, but not boxed, so looks messy.
RTS1 in Switzerland and RTBF La Trois Belgium have a clean feed with no channel branding of Franceinfo or "midterms" but has lower thirds.

There is no Le 6h info on France 2, with the election show ending at 0620 CET and TéléMatin starting 10 minutes earlier. Franceinfo's La Matinale starts as normal at 0627.
