BBC TV Christmas 2022 Pres

It wasn't really to do with studio space, it was simply down to an older attitude that Christmas was simply Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

In fact from the late 1950s until 1972, those three days of the year were the only three days were a special exemption was given to those days for both the BBC and ITV television services to air more television than what was limited to by the Postmaster General, usually limited to 8 hours of general entertainment per day. That limit was lifted for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, which was a treat for British viewers to have say BBC One on air Christmas Day non stop from 9.30am until Midnight. This became known as the Christmas Exemption.

So, this attitude that Christmas was really only those three days was what kept their Christmas idents only airing over those three days. This attitude changed gradually during the 1990s.
