Absolutely not. That was also my first thought on seeing it.

Yes, but one of my friends in school said initially that he thought it harks back to that logo as well. Honestly, I do see that, but I believe the main callback to the past is the use of a line around the wordmark (linked letters) and the bold letters.

"Please stand by for further details, as we return you now to your regularly scheduled program. Hopefully."

It never stopped being used on screen. It's only on ITV that it doesn't appear, but they're not the only channel whose news is produced by ITN.
