BBC/ITV Wales/S4C News

Sky News also showed the announcment live.

Bit unfortunate (or fortunate for Vaughan Gething with how it was going) on the Radio Wales special just now, the microphone used by Vaughan Gething when speaking to James Williams had a lot of crackling , causing a premature end to the interview.

Has Vaughan Roderick left BBC staff? He is credited here as 'Sylwebydd Gwleidyddol' (Political commentator) rather than Welsh Affairs Editor or with any mention to him working for BBC Wales/Newyddion.

He still presents Sunday Supplement on Sunday mornings on BBC Radio Wales, and Dros Ginio on BBC Radio Cymru (though that is in the middle of a run of eight consecutive different presenters).

Sorry to say Vaughan hasn't been in the best of health over the past couple of years - he had his right leg amputated after being diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.

He's still with the BBC, as far as I know, but has cut back his work schedule considerably - AFAIK, he's no longer credited as Welsh Affairs Editor, though he has returned to presenting Sunday Supplement for Radio Wales after a long absence.

Nice to see a report on a BSL GCSE being introduced in Wales having onscreen BSL translation by Erica James on both Wales Today and Newyddion. Nice to see Erica outside of Friday lunchtimes as well.

Surprise, surprise - the doyenne of Welsh sporting disaster, Catrin Heledd, is presenting the delayed MOTD highlights on BBC1 now.

Away from the footy, ITV Wales' long serving head of news and programmes Phil Henfrey has been named the new Wales director at OFCOM.
