On his podcast, The Ringer editor Bill Simmons interviewed LA 2028 chairman Casey Wasserman, and he made a quite remarkable tidbit on how the primetime highlights show will be structured:

Quote: “NBC is not going to pretend like it’s live anymore. What they’re going to do is treat it like a reality show.”

In brief, NBC is trying to bring the Bravo style of scripted reality to sports, particularly to attract a more diverse, female-skewing and much younger audience to the event, a move given NBC’s decision to go fully live for these Games.

Back to Opening Ceremony matters, alongside the usual routine of having the Today show anchors and the prime time host as commentators, NBC has announced Peyton Manning and Kelly Clarkson will join Mike Tirico, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb as part of the team:

The full competition schedule has been updated in recent days to include more exact timings, including the nightly schedules for swimming and athletics (swimming has had a few events moved as well I think).

Never a fan of events prior to the Opening Ceremony but at least the Rugby 7s beginning beforehand means the BBC can show the group games on their stream.

Used to be an unwritten rules that any event prior to the Opening Ceremony would not see athletes eliminated but with the quarter finals taking place on the Thursday it does mean all but 4 men's Rugby 7s teams will be out of medal contention before the games begin.

Through GB Men haven’t qualified yet and will face a tough battle for the last spot. If there is no GB I’m not sure the BBV with bother with it on the red button.

Peacock in the USA will be broadcasting an Olympic version of NFL Red Zone throughout the Games. Gold Zones's hosts include Red Zone host Scott Hanson.

This could be a very fun broadcast to experience.
