Ken Bruce to leave BBC Radio 2 show after 31 years

Not really - he's moving on, other people need to do. The mess at RTE is largely of RTE's making. It's debatable whether Ryan was complicit or the scapegoat - or perhaps both. But in a world where it seems celebs are often beaten with the same brush for years after being tarred by a scandal it's refreshing to see someone able to move on quite quickly.

I wonder if that'll change now that Radio Merseyside is having most of its local programmes removed

Except it isn't - Merseyside is keeping its own Drive and Introducing shows and doing at least two hours of sport on weeknights (more on a Premier League / Super League matchnight)

The only real casualty on weekdays so far has been Linda McDermott on lates.

The only really noticeable cuts will come at weekends - same with Manchester, for that matter.

This is an interesting move from Bauer.

I can understand them doing this. I’ve no idea about cable, but the radio section on Sky, especially since Sky Q, is almost hidden these days - or at least very un-prominent. I’m guessing the number of listeners via satellite and cable isn’t worth the cost of carriage and the EPG positions.

For some reason listening to radio via Freeview seems more popular.

I guess if you’re desperate to listen via Sky Q, you could still listen via the Radioplayer app.

I think this is why, Bauer are currently rolling out an all-in-one radio and podcast service called Rayo (starting with iOS, rolling out to other platforms later on), here is the web page about it:   hellorayo.co.uk

I'm obviously missing something but I don't quite get why people would listen to the radio on your TV on any platform - radios and presumably DAB radios as well cost practically nothing to run, whereas a TV will suck more power up showing a black screen.

Yeah seems a bit daft plus there's always the risk (albeit small) of screen burn.

There are many reasons why people would choose to listen to the radio via their TV such as better sound quality but re. costs they are probably not aware and/or don't care.

Didn't the BBC write about how changes to their radio MHEG slates saved a rather large amount of power (presumably in part because so many people use their TV for this purpose)?

Sky Q listeners to Bauer radio stations will have to use the Radioplayer app once they leave the EPG.
