BBC/ITV North East News
#1

This region doesn't appear to have its own thread, so might as well start one. This will apply to, at least, BBC's Look North (North East & Cumbria) and ITV News Tyne Tees/Border (there may be other regional variations up here I'm not aware of).

Look North this lunchtime appeared to be having issues with its autocue; after the first report/VT ended, the newsreader (Alastair Gill) started reading from the script in front of him through until the end of the bulletin.

No Look North NE&C this evening, they're taking LN Leeds instead.

The bulletin also contained some North East stories and the weather map included North East and Cumbria place names.

On this article it’s due to maintenance work at the studios/systems over the weekend and into Monday morning… either a studio set refresh or getting the equipment ready for the impeding HD switch on in a couple of weeks time.

My guess is the equipment. BBC Midlands Today & Look North Hull are already in temporary sets

Interestingly HD and Nightlight are taking the Newcastle edition of Politics North tomorrow, possibly being played out by network pres?

Seems strange that Newcastle can't manage to stay on air in some form - don't they have two studios still?

A studio set refresh is unlikely, giving they’ll be back on Monday morning

Not just some stories, the top story

I expect they were hoping for a quiet weekend rather than a big story happening in the region that was off air

Newcastle does have a second (very small) studio but I don't think it is usable at short notice - i.e., has a set and equipment in - in the same way that Southampton's Studio B is (or certainly was).

Just had a look at the combined bulletin on iPlayer.

I’m surprised, if, as it would seem, this was planned, that they didn’t have a title sequence including both regions’ place names and images.

We’ve seen before that they’ve got a generic ‘North Today’ opening to cover Yorkshire and the North West. Surely they must have a Look North Yorkshire, and North East and Cumbria opening in reserve for occasions like this.
