Legendary BBC commentator John Motson has died at the age of 77, another sad bit of news for sports broadcasters after the sad news earlier this week about Dickie Davies

It’s a shame and a little bit younger than I thought. He joined talkSPORT for a bit how long was he there for?

When most of the current male commentators sound very similar to each it’s a shame we no longer have that variety.

When Motty was commentating you knew you were listening to a consummate performer. The authority and knowledge in his voice marked him in my opinion as the ultimate professional. RIP

One thing quite refreshing with Motty is he knew when to step away and ultimately that enabled a much smoother handover process at the BBC with him gradually stepping down from duties over his final few years on air.

Yes he always came across as older, as for talkSPORT he joined in 2018 just after he left the BBC and appeared on Hawksbee & Jacobs on Friday and Monday on their previews/reviews of the weekend as well as about 20 commentaries and I was trying to pinpoint when he left as a regular and the Difference on DS thought it was around the first covid lockdown

BBC One are repeating Motty - The Man Behind the Sheepskin after MOTD2 on Sunday.
