CITV is to close

Think it's got anything to do with that "ITV Kids" thing seen in the dev shots from DixonBaxi?

It's ITV plc's replacement effort. See post 1 of this thread.

Bringing it back to kids TV but I assume a chunk of the CITV weekend slot (on ITV1/Breakfast) is relatively ad free.  Indeed I think the ITV Breakfast slot may stipulate the ad quota across the week rather than daily, so they can put more into GMB in the week.
Relatively good for the viewer, once maybe: it's not like they make good use of these slots, which might be improved, as these are commercial broadcasters first and foremost.

I think PSB are living through difficult times already as it is, without adding an extra layer of complications with advertising laws.

Just made them respect their obligations, without too tight advertising laws, or just reformulate them slightly differently.

And yes, that CITV slot is not so attractive advertisers.

Maybe, I don't know, change the whole thing to a 7 mins of average in the broadcasting day and 45 mins between 6pm and 11pm, but more likely, we'll just the whole thing being flattened out, without removing some programme obligations of course.

Likely they won't use the 12 mins of advertising per hour everywhere, of course, as movies and football can't have it, but news and regional news probably need a slightly little push these days.

But the current situation is not ideal: ITV1 and Channel 5 already feel forced to have teleshopping from the likes of 1am, which is not very PSB, and the lack of advertising at 6pm and 10pm seems like a dream, but it's not for them.

We might continue this discussion in a different thread if you want, it's always curious to see such things being discussed and different opinions Smile

Off-topic but perhaps ITV and C5 could bring back those interactive casino shows (SuperCasino and Jackpot247) for the 1AM slot rather than Teleshopping- I know C5 still has variants of them (LeoVegas and 21.co.uk) but they're not as interactive as SuperCasino- just green screen links, no interaction from host to viewer at all, whereas the others had more life.

I imagine the Ideal World slot for ITV is relatively well-paid - I believe (but correct me if I am wrong) Ideal World run live for the ITV slot, so to have the staff in the studio at 1am for it must indicate they do well off of the timeslot as opposed to just doing a pre-record.

The ITV1 / STV slots are indeed live: they're usually padded from 12 midnight with a repeat from earlier in the day. unless the gap is particularly small. If you're watching on Ideal World, you can enjoy two introductions on evenings when STV and ITV's timings differ, often with mention to the STV viewers that items will sell a lot quicker when ITV join.

Of course, there is a level of interactivity as they will often read out e-mails, though it's somewhat more focused on selling since the period of Rob Locke ruminating on his acting career has passed by.

A update on ITV's replacement for CITV: They have announced more shows to appear over the course of the rollout of ITVX Kids: rxtvinfo.com

Also, I can't help but think that September might be when they will close the channel. It ties in with the full rollout of the streaming service and moving the old GMTV2 licence back to ITV2.

I’m a bit surprised they are actually bothering to move the GMTV2 licence to ITV2. I’d have thought they might be able to get away with having it on ITV Be and just using it for LittleBe instead. That way, it’s on their most minor channel. I doubt Ofcom would have cared (despite ITV previously making the argument, successfully, that they should be allowed to reduce Children’s commitments on ITV 1 due to the existence of the CITV channel).

Ofcom doesn't have any issues with that anymore given that the new Media Bill says that quotas that now apply to ITV (like children's programming) can be simply applied online only and the quota is still met

It wouldn't make sense for ITV to get away with passing off LittleBe as filling a quota for GMTV2, it airs throughout the morning and not at 6am if anything. Be doesn't even begin normal programming until 7am to begin with.

ITV2's morning schedule has barely anyone watching it, and it retains a smaller linear outlet for what's left out of ITV's children's programming.

If needs be though Little Be could have moved to the breakfast slot.   I suspect ITV2 is just a stop gap - an initial commitment they'll look to drop a year or two down the line.

That announcement today suggests very little UK content - even the big hook of Dave Spud is just six episodes.

Either that's just one portion or they downsized the commission.  ITV originally commissioned 26 episodes.
