I feel we sometimes forget this is a presentation forum.
While a presenter may be a part of that (and some people do seem to lose the plot when their favourite presenter(s) ends up doing some on-location piece to camera in a field somewhere while surrounded by cow dung), it is not the only part.
It used to be that presentation discussion was pretty much (but not exclusively limited to) the choice of ident, the choice of the titles, how company X covered it when programme Y fell off the air, etc. When we can get 20 pages out of the colour of somebody's tie I think we're probably too niche at that point.
Personally I do not feel the Huw Edwards story is a suitable subject for discussion here (in great depth anyway). Maybe in passing and where its suitable to other discussion but on its own? I feel not. But of course its not my decision to make so...

I remember those days fondly but in the age of multiple media outlets and instantaneous responses those days are gone. The story itself can't be totally ignored by us because it does encroach onto this forum and its aims but 99 % of it should be a private issue.

Yesterday I received a direct message from another member. When I replied, I received a notification that this member had private messaging turned off, and so my message couldn’t be sent.
Should it not be the case that if you’ve got PM disabled, you shouldn’t be able to send outgoing messages In the first place? At least then you’d realise you had messaging turned off and wouldn’t be expecting a reply.
Or is there currently some issue I’m not aware of?
Either way if you messaged me yesterday, I’m not ignoring you!

Spencer, whilst I agree that turning off the receiving of private messages should in theory prevent a user from sending a PM, I don't believe that happens with myBB.
However, it is also the case that a member could easily have PMs on, send a PM, then turn off PMs immediately afterwards. A no-win situation.
If you have any issues with a PM you receive, please contact the admin/mods directly using the link in the main menu. Thanks.

What already? Bloody hell! A very happy birthday to Pres Cafe and a huge Thanks to @Rob Francis as well. I've got to say that I was reluctant to Join because I was concerned that the forum would quickly degenerate into the mud slinging that I consider blighted the last months of TV Forum but its been heartening and refreshing to see that hasn't happened. All the best PC and here's to another great year.

I have to admit I didn’t think anyone could equal your own excellent efforts in stepping in for tvforum, but the team here have managed to do so. This site has established itself as a worthy successor.
I love the “1” in the logo!!
Lovely touch..

Further to other comments….
This is also a nice, non-threatening environment, where robust debate is encouraged but insults and off topic nonsense is not. I for one appreciate that, there is no anxiety triggered by reading or posting here.
