BeIN Sports
#1

This thread is for presentation images and discussion of BeIN Sports channels across the various countries they operate including the Middle East/North Africa (MENA), France, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey and Indonesia.

I'll start with some images of the main studio and presentation used by the Arabic version the MENA channels.

First some images of the quite basic triangle themed titles used for coverage of all the main leagues they show (English, French and Spanish). A variation of the tiles are used in English too on those channels. Coverage these screenshots are from used the same presenter and studio pundits for Everton v Chelsea and then Clermont vs PSG.

Some of the graphics (which are also the same in English but on the opposite side of the screen (as English is read left to right while Arabic is right to left)

Some images and information about the English channels, which are still only broadcast to the MENA region and aimed at British and other English people living in the Middle East. There are 3 English channels and they mainly broadcast the same matches and sports which are shown on the other Arabic channels but with English commentary and for the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League plus international matches they have English studio presentation.

This coverage features Richard Keys and Andy Gray for the Premier League coverage but also has Aarran Summers, Andy Kerr and Nicky Crosby as additional presenters. Before Covid they used to have a wide range of pundits but now it seems to be Didi Domi, Nigel de  Jong, Nicky Summerbee and Jason McAteer who are used, probably due to financial cutbacks which have also seen the amount of matches and programing that use the English studio substantially reduced (e.g. it used to have various "magazine" programmes and big La Liga matches from the studio but this has stopped).

They also show some sports exclusively on the English channels such as England's home cricket matches plus some rugby (only 7s at the moment) and golf (DP World Tour tournaments played in the Middle East).

Studio is shown below, unfortunately they didn't use a wide shot while I was watching yesterday. This studio was previously used for the Ligue 1 coverage while the English studio was much bigger and elaborate, but post Covid they don't use this one anymore on the English channels.

Spot what is missing on the list of teams qualified for the Champions League group stage shown on the BeIN Arabic channel compared to the version shown on the English channel.

The group information on the English version and the heading is a more simplified one on the English version.

I would assume maybe it’s the Israeli team?

Yes, and now, whenever the group featuring Maccibi Haifa is shown (despite it also containing PSG, which has the same owner of BeIN) they show it as a three team group on the Arabic version of the channel. The English version do show it as a 4 team group though.

Normally they show Israeli team matches on BeIN English 3 with no Arabic commentary, but with PSG and Juventus playing Maccibi Haifa home and away, I'm not sure if they will be able to just ignore the matches in the same way.

I’m surprised rights holders allow it, although I imagine they don’t want to turn down beIN’s money. Irrespective of your views on the situation in the Middle East you can’t just pretend the team doesn’t exist. I kind of hope they win their group now.

It’s even more surprising considering Qatar is meant to be hosting a World Cup in a few months.

Speaking of this, how is beIN handling the preparations for their historic World Cup coverage and what are their plans for the tournament, both in the Arabic and English sides?

Previously, a few years ago, BeIN got in trouble with UEFA for not showing an Israeli team's matches at all (this could have been the last time a team from Israel got to the group stages). Since that they now do show the matches but in the most obscure location they can. As I say, it will be interesting to see what they do when PSG are involved against Maccabi. More of their broadcast area now have diplomatic relations with Israel now too, Morocco, UAE and Bahrain now do joining Egypt and Jordan.
