Martin had his teenage girlfriend commit suicide after killing her dad... not the best ending even if it wasn't while he was married to Gail.
Embarrassing news for The Sun. Just yesterday they printed an article headlined Platt To The Future: Helen to overtake Bill, saying she'd signed a new contract which could see her overtake Bill Roache's number of episodes (she's on 4453, he's on 4773). If she's leaving instead, that won't be happening and Bill's record is safe.
Knowing how over the top some Corrie storylines have become, I wouldn't be surprised if Gail is killed off by being murdered by Corrie's latest (possibly soon-to-be) serial killer.
Which would be Joel, who was recently revealed to have been the one who killed Lauren Bolton, and is also sexually exploiting teenage girls.
Gail starts to get suspicious, finds some incriminating evidence, Joel finds out and bumps her off.
Hopefully she won't be killed off. But it always makes the disappearance difficult to explain when the character then doesn't appear for any future Platt clan births, deaths, marriages etc.

Well, you can argue we don't actually know he killed Lauren yet, he might be keeping her captive somewhere. We saw him hitting her over the head, but nothing to confirm she was killed, and of course there's been no body found yet

Ahh, you mean like Michelle Fowler, who never showed up for anything, not even for her own parents' and brother's funerals.
At least not until she came back with a completely different head.
