With the ridiculous amount of injury time now feels like starting knock-out games three hours apart is a bit close. One match had 15 minutes injury time this week - add on extra time and then if it went to penalties you could conceivable enter a 4th hour of the game.

If you think that was bad...

(Temporary delays caused by floodlight failures the cause)

Floodlight failure? Usually that would be match abandoned - they did well to continue at all. Kudos to the engineers who managed to fix them so quickly!

It looks like it was only one floodlight that had failed - it broke twice from what I can see, leading to two 10 minute stoppages. The match also featured a beyond poor pitch and the referee getting tackled - your typical July European club qualifier!

When and why did the custom become to add 30 minutes of stoppage time for something like that rather than stop the clock? Ukraine v. Northern Ireland in Euro 2016 sticks out for me, where the players were taken off for an electrical storm and play resumed five minutes later with the clock stopped during that period.

Back to the Women's World Cup, and Robyn Cowen is now in Australia for the BBC

I don't know why football don't stop the clock like they do in both codes of Rugby, it would make so more sense.
I do like the way that the refs during these championships are explaining the decisions after looking at video evidence. I hope that is introduced to men's football soon.

I think the commentary is marginally ahead of the pictures on BBC One

Guess the BBC online clips use different commentators then as there is a male commentator in the sending off clip online but two female commentators on the BBC.

Are you sure? As it seems to be the TV commentary now. So they might have changed it.

That was a very tight turnover.  If those penalties went to sudden death, they might have missed kick-off in Australia v. Denmark.
