Do we know when this video is from, as it's not dated? Possibly it's from earlier than that. I'm not familiar enough with Minder to identify the episode and know if it pre or post dates that. That slide design looks older than 1987 though.

Possibly also a fault that happened during transfer if it was played from tape and somehow got missed, though they were very quick loading in the correct tape and getting back on air if that was the case.

It's not dated yet, though a comment says that the slide style is 1986ish so that fits with that. 

As for the quick recovery, possibly that was just the next spool of film, possibly ready in another machine... I don't know if Telecine worked like that switching between machines

While there is a comment on the video that says that, looking at other Thames continuity videos, that slide design is actually from the very early 80s.

The episode in question is High Drains Pilferer (Series 4 Episode 3), first shown in 1984 (if Wikipedia is correct, 25th January 1984). That gives you the earliest possible date this incident was from.

It's a Cintel twin lens telecine going into stop mode, the stretched 'verticals' is the clue. Why I could not guess.

I think that one was caused by a splice falling apart, where the BBC edited the film to put the pre-titles scene after the titles (something they were still doing with some shows into the 90s).

It was, because the film was imported over from the States, it still had American advertisements for items.etc and the Beeb would edit the film by physically cutting the adverts out and (as you mentioned) splicing together the pre-titles scene after the main title sequence!

Only on this occasion of course, the film split where they cut out the main titles!
