Could any difference in what people saw, with the breakdown, be attributed to whether it was coming through the Northern transmission centre, or the southern transmission centre? If so, it would suggest, logically, STV were taking the feed from the Northern centre.

Also I half expected to see an STV slide but nope they just used the itv1 slide.

The test patterns are fairly standard - the first one is labelled 'Paris IBC', so originating from the International Broadcast Centre; the second is from Timeline TV's RF3, the uplink truck presumably at the stadium. It's got quite a retro looking caption generator for a reasonably new vehicle.

The September 2004 date is interesting, as that's pretty much the same time that GMTV2 and Pop started repeating the show, so quite possibly the DVD is sourced from copies actually made for those repeats.

The DVD of the other 90s Sonic cartoon (they liked to confuse us by making two at the same time.... I remember being so confused when Channel 4 switched between them one week with no warning) has the textless elements left in at the end of one episode as well.

Nicktoons played a Loud House episode last year with a slate similar to that after the opening credits.

It doesn’t appear to have caused a problem yet but occasionally on clubland the sound goes a little choppy and when doing so a thin black line appears on the screen for about a second. As far as I can tell it’s been doing this since yesterday.

Clubland appears to be simulcasting Now 70s at the moment, noticed it as I was flicking through.

EDIT: Problems started on Virgin at around 6:15 PM as per this thread https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Virgin-TV-V6/Clubland-TV-off-air/td-p/5429248

I can’t check Sky to see if it’s actually off air or a simulcast by Virgin

Some tape trouble on the Network 94-disc Crossroads set.

One good thing about Network is that they left these sorts of problems in, far too many other companies would cut these things out or just not release it at all. It's incredibly sad they've gone.

If that was broadcast like that it would be

'that's terrible, standards have dropped, is there no-one monitoring these things and fixing them instantly!!??!!'

When it's a enthusiasts DVD it's 'how quaint, they left the faults in'  Big Grin

It tends to depend on where the problem occurs and whether its worth doing anything about. As that issue is during the credits and not during any live action, its probably not worth remaking an entire run of credits. If it was going to be broadcast (that episode is from 1979 apparently) it would have almost certainly been remade, though its usually obvious that's been the case.

But of course Dr Who Restoration Team has demonstrated that even if the issue was over action, its not entirely insurmountable given enough time, money and effort. Presumably the bulk of the budget for those sort of releases would have been to clear it for release and put the packaging together (the disk media is dirt cheap and I presume duplication via a stamp wasn't too expensive either).

Maybe they just need to check the tracking on their DVD player...

I'm assuming whatever rumour about Network being rescued that was doing the rounds amounted to nothing?
