WMYD-TV channel 20 is picking up the CW , replacing reruns of Chicago Fire and Law and Order SVU. This station used to be the Detroit WB station. https://www.wxyz.com/news/tv20-detroit-to-air-cw-network-primetime-programming-live-sports-starting-nov-13

Makes me wonder if Mission Broadcasting could end up buying WMYD-TV instead of WADL

With WMYD picking it up , it kind of defeats the need to buy a station now.

That's a homecoming for the WWE, they had "WWE Smackdown" for 2 years on the CW, carrying over from UPN airing it. USA network currently airs NXT , and are getting Smackdown next year, leaving FOX, so guess they were willing to let go of NXT.

RE: The CW taken over by Nexstar - JAS84 - 08-11-2023

Smackdown's a bigger show than NXT - Smackdown and Raw are the two main brands - so USA's decision makes sense. CW is a bigger network than USA isn't it though? Which means this is a promotion for NXT.

This means a technical downgrade, as the subchannel is in SD (but it airs in widescreen). Comet programming is still airing outside The CW's networked schedule. BTW, all of this looks very temporary.
Indeed it is, first in Detroit, now in Seattle - they're switching to KUNS-TV next year, also run by Sinclair. Given they're currently affiliated with Spanish network Univision, local minorities aren't very pleased about it:

In Phoenix, Scripps's KASW is saying goodbye to CW starting next week, as the station is becoming the home of Arizona Coyotes. It's to be branded as Arizona 61, the same as KMCC (Vegas 34) and KUPX (Utah 16), both Scripps' sport-heavy indie stations. CW programming, meanwhile, moves to the .2 subchannel on sister station KNXV.

Continuing with the subchannel switching, three CW stations across Gray and Sinclair are heading to Nexstar subchannels next year.

One of them, Sinclair-owned WWMT, is to be relaunched as ARC (not ABC!) West Michigan:

The Univision affiliation seems to be moving to Weigel's KVOS, previously a Heroes & Icons station.

Meanwhile, KUNS is running a new morning show, also under the ARC brand:

Scripps is pulling the plug on CW in its remaining 7 stations, including big markets like Detroit (again!) and Miami. Only 2 out of the 7 will be succeeded by Nexstar stations by September.

Would be interesting to see who it’ll end up with in Detroit - being passed over by that many hands, CW is basically a damaged brand over there…
