Anyone else not enjoying the light show in stadiums during halftime, it's off-putting, don't know what anyone with epilepsy feel about it.

Ratings up in some countries but down in others. In the USA both Fox and Telemundo is up but In Norway for example ratings are seemingly down by more than three fifths. In Germany ratings has also dropped it seems but the comparison in the second article is between a Sunday daytime match and a Wednesday daytime match. The drop for the opening match is more major through considering that was on a weekend compared to the Thursday it was on in 2018. France ratings about the same (For Tuesday evening this year vs Saturday Lunchtime last year.)

Agreed, it's very distracting.

Also, having done some research, here is where England have exited in major tournaments since 1996:

WC 1998 - Argentina (ITV)
Euro 2000 - Romania (BBC)
Euro 2004 - Portugal (BBC)
WC 2006 - Portugal (BBC)
WC 2010 - Germany (BBC)
Euro 2012 - Italy (BBC)
WC 2014 - Uruguay (ITV)
Euro 2016 - Iceland (ITV)
WC 2018 - Croatia (ITV)

Brazil 2002, Germany 1996 and Italy 2020 not included as they were simulcasted on both BBC and ITV. Also, ITV have the first pick for the Last 16.

Edit: Portugal 2006 was BBC not ITV.

Gabby hosting tonight’s highlights from a city centre location rather than in an empty stadium as previously

Speaking of which… Fox’s telecast of ENG v USA broke the record for a televised soccer match (in US parlance) in the States, beating the 1994 World Cup final (when ABC had the rights) by a 6+ percent margin.

What is all that Spanish language noise in the background and why does it sound just as loud as Gabby?

Interesting Twitter thread on how the Chinese state broadcaster is using ISOs from the host broadcaster to cover up shots of unmasked crowds, given recent unrest in China over restrictions there.

Worth noting that ‘customising’ host broadcast coverage isn’t unusual, although usually for other reasons. NBC effectively direct their own coverage of a lot of Olympic events, using ISOs of host broadcaster cameras along with many of their own.
