Although not, as Matterface said during the opening lines of commentary, the highest ratings of the year. Forgetting it was Her Majesty's funeral just weeks ago...  Rolleyes

I thought exactly the same as he said that.

Obviously the match wasn’t quite as competitive but the peak was 4 million down on the peak of the penalty shootout in the equivalent match in 2018. The average audience was also a million or two lower. I think through Saturday will get a similar peak if the Match remains close till the end/goes all the way to penalties.

So ITVs afternoon match went into extra time and penalties, meaning they dropped both the national and regional news

Interesting that ITV have dropped the studio for today's knockout matches today and on Sunday. Instead they have used an open studio with the talent standing up and using hand mics and earphones. Elsewhere I'd suggest this was to get the coverage closer to the atmosphere, but most of the time in Qatar the atmosphere has been lacking, so it just ooks a little awkward.

Some of the group stage games particularly the 10am kick offs did the same

I haven't seen it officially confirmed by either broadcaster but have seen it reported that the BBC will show both of Friday's quarter-finals and ITV will do likewise on Saturday.

BBC had Brazils 1st match when they had Lineker, Shearer, Richards & Gilberto Silva outside in the same position

Presumably that's the space that's been provided at that stadium (Lusail Stadium).

I believe that's where the final is going to be so will be interesting to see how the space is utilised for both BBC & ITV.

I’ve seen ITV use an outdoor space more than I have the BBC. I’d imagine there must be an option to use either at some stadiums. If that’s the case you could see the BBC using an indoor studio and ITV using the outside space.
