MFTJA - MFTJA - 17-02-2023

This Tweet gives a helpful bit of insight about the new studio…

Sounds a bit like they might be doing what I speculated on last year.

I hope that's not the final resting place for the sofa. It would be a waste of a nice set if it was.

Hopefully it's just in that place whilst the big video wall(?) is being assembled in the back of that picture.  I could imagine that for Breakfast the sofa might be rotated so that it was in front of those screens, so that the newsroom wasn't visible for Breakfast.  Then potentially having it in that position during the day for Sports bulletins would allow it to look similar to how it currently is/was.

RE: BBC Breakfast - Stuart - 18-02-2023

I wonder if we're looking at a launch of the new set in mid-April after the Easter break.  This would be similar to the relocation to Salford, with the first broadcast on Tuesday 10 April 2012.

RE: BBC Breakfast - Newsroom - 22-02-2023

Another image has surfaced of the new studio, but it's difficult to see how it's progressing.

Those are in the Midlands Today set too

RE: BBC Breakfast - DTV - 22-02-2023

Would appear to be a relatively 360° set with LED screens along at least the two walls we can see (we know at least part of the other two walls are a newsroom view). The framed gap, though, on the long wall is interesting - possibly a doorway?

Interesting that the reply to that tweet says the set may be for NWT too.

I can’t see how that can be possible if it is also used for Sport.

I think it's important to note the reply was "and maybe also North West Tonight", meaning it's not a definite yet. With the News Channel & World News merging it gives the opportunity to shake up the schedules and move Sportsday (or the equivalent) away from the 6.30pm timeslot. I'd imagine the late NWT bulletins and Breakfast updates would likely use the same alternative/smaller studio.

Going into conjecture territory here.

Wonder if that is why Carol Lowe over on Twitter has mentioned that NWT is either among the last or is the last to receive a Studio B style regional studio as they are seeing what the situation is with Sportsday / Sport Today* first and hoping to do an instant transfer from the current SQ2 - I believe it is called as it was alluded to either in the Blue or Purple Places - to the new studio when the time comes. Kind of hedging one's bets given the amount of shared staff for Breakfast and NWT and the ease of using one studio instead of two.
