RE: BBC Breakfast - Brekkie - 04-01-2023

That was smoother than some previous attempts but baffles me why interviews straddle that slot considering they usually hit the TOTH/BOTH the rest of the show. Why is the regional news at around 9.05 rather than 8.55 for example, which would create a cleaner opt out point.

That said surprised Breakfast hasn't been pushed back to a 9am finish since Morning Live began.

It's particularly odd considering that they don't even have the excuse of failing to adjust their daily routine to BBC News taking Breakfast until 09:00 as that change coincided with Breakfast being cut to just three hours and regional news being suspended. You would've thought they'd have modified the format slightly when the end time reverted to 09:15 but BBC News didn't revert to ending the simulcast at 08:30.

Would one say the main problem is that there is no longer that 08:30 'natural' cut off point for the NC that it had for a long time since BBC Breakfast came into inception in 2000? Thus, 08:30-09-15 has always been the exclusive domain of BBC One whereas now it seems with the NC running to 09:00 it still is in the old BBC One version.

Originally Breakfast was 06:00-09:00 on BBC One and BBC News 24. It then got temporarily extended (to 09:30) on BBC One after Kilroy was axed before falling back to finishing at 09:15 later in 2004. It was the April 2006 schedule change that saw News 24 begin opting out at 08:30 which continued until March 2020.

It does feel like the 9.15am finish weekdays should possibly be reviewed. There's now Morning Live on BBC One, which presumably ticks the non-London quota. Additionally the News Channel now only cuts away at 9am, which I doubt will change when the news channels merge.

They could consider at 8.59am going to the regional news with...
"We say goodbye to viewers watching on BBC News, but for those watching on BBC One it's time for a last look at what's happening where you live."
Then afterwards post-9am potentially still having an interview and providing one last look at today's main news before handing over to Morning Live.

Alternatively simply finishing Breakfast at 9am and extending Morning Live to an hour. After all BBC Two is currently showing the news channel from 9am weekdays.

And when Morning Live isn't on, it's usually other live content anyway - such as Crimewatch.

RE: BBC Breakfast - Medianext.MX - 06-01-2023

January 17th's broadcast will feature throwback elements on the 8.30am segment, including appearances from Russell Grant, Debbie Rix, Francis Wilson and the Green Goddess, plus recreations of the original graphics and clock...

Hang on, I’m getting serious deja vu on that one…

And I think they did something similar on the 30th too…

Was that studio recreation in TC7? I'm sure normal Breakfast was still in N6 at that point (I think it moved back into TC7 a bit later in the year).

The Breakfast Time recreation is definitely TC7, but the regular Breakfast presenters are still in N6 (hence why it takes them a few minutes to arrive). Breakfast returned to TC7 on 4th February, so only a few weeks later.
