What an insult. Got to be proud of that one.

I think one of the biggest issues was how she was not allowed to do the show if Roman was off. Indeed on those lines I'd be surprised if should Roman quit that both Sian and Chris remain as radio can be a bit like football management where the whole team is connected to the fate of the boss.

Sian and Chris will be part of Jordan's show. He has been hanging around with them and posting about them for months now. I would be shocked is they left with Roman. Also since January at least it's been called Capital Breakfast with Roman, Chris and Sian rather than just saying Roman Kemp. It will be the Capital Breakfast with Jordan, Chris and Sian from April I think.

But to be honest I hope Chris re-joins Scott on Radio 2. I miss them together.

I guess the difference here is that Ken left at the end of his contract, was straight with the BBC about notice of his plans etc whereas it feels like this happened out of the blue, mid contract.

I’m not up on how these sort of contracts work, but would there ever be a 6 month break clause? It seems to be known that Vick & Jordan re-signed in September (which makes sense as they started in September 2021).

In regards to comments about Global “buying him out” - does that mean they paid the BBC the value of his remaining contact so they’re effectively not at a loss?

But also in a more general sense it’s always going to be easier for the specialist presenters to stay relevant than the mainstream ones.
It wouldn’t have mattered if Annie spent her non-working time knitting and doing crosswords (not that Annie appeared to be the typical 80 something even outside of work) as the only topic of conversation on her show would be about the music and artists she was playing but daytime presenters need to be able to talk about a much wider set of relevant topics to keep the listeners interested and in order to do this effectively they either need to have an interest in such topics or at the very least spend significant time researching them so they can pretend to do so.

I assume it's an early termination clause or something similar. Often the contract is with a freelancer's limited company rather than a standard contract of employment.

Your absolutely right. You could also put pete tong and the late John peel in the same category of still sounding good on radio 1 despite being an older age.

Yes, he could have had an early termination clause, if another company came in with a higher salary. Especially if the last contract didn’t pay as much as was being asked for. His representatives could have asked for it to protect his earning potential if they thought the BBC weren’t paying what he could earn.

BTW if I remember correctly Ken Bruce didn’t complete his full contract and his show was finished a few weeks early. This would be quite standard when going to a competitor as to not finish on Friday and start at new station on Monday and take all your listeners with you. But would depend on the individual circumstances.

RE: BBC Radio 1 - Steve in Pudsey - 18-02-2024

The difference was that Ken was quite willing to complete the contract. Presumably the BBC felt that gardening leave was in order

RE: BBC Radio 1 - Brekkie - 18-02-2024

Vick currently on air with her regular Sunday "Life Hacks" show with Yinka (sitting in for Katie). No explicit mention so far other than when she played a "Life Hacks with Vick and Katie" jingle by mistake and said that wasn't the first thing to take her by surprise this week and a talk about family checking in with her this week in a discussion about "non romantic love".

She did put something up on Instagram last night:

Yes of course, the point I was trying to make was they didn’t allow Ken to continue broadcasting right up to starting his new job.

We don’t have it confirmed where Jordan is going or when he will start.

Interesting about Vick mentioning surprises this week, maybe it all happened very quickly.
